So krieg heavy weapon squads and standard guard ones have different unit names, are they classed as different units or would the rule still affect this. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Do they use the same datasheet?

The rule of 3 is for datasheets specifically.

FAQ has a special case ruling that all of the different HWTs are the same for purposes of RO3. So no loophole to take mortar spam.

I actually had someone try to tell me a few months ago that the rule only applied to the "weapon" in the HWT. So he had 9 mortars and 9 HBs. I told him this wasn't allowable, but yielded because screw it, it's not worth tossing the game. It's clear rules bloat has now eclipsed the purpose of rules in the first place. where in order to understand the BASIC RULES, you need a lot of different qualifiers, IN ORDER.
