Could I use a SM Dreadnought/Venerable Dreadnought as a Hellbrute? In your experience, how do most TOs react to asking if you can use a Dreadnought to count as a Hellbrute?

Thanks

SG

Not really a YMDC question, it'll be entirely up to the tournament or your play group.

I'd be very surprised if anyone cares in a pick up game, but it might not be allowed by some tournament guidelines. With some conversion it's probably fine, but exactly what that means will vary from event to event considerably.

I'd say 100% yes, since Helbrutes are simply a modeling evolution of....(drum roll please) a Chaos Dreadnought.

The Helbrute inherited its weapon options, special rules (such as going berserk), etc. directly from the Chaos Dreadnought of old. Most notably it shares a 100% match for the basic dreadnought stat-line. The 'Helbrute' name is just GW starting to try its hand at obnoxious overly-silly names applied to things.

I'd just make sure your weapons are appropriately modeled to represent the Helbrute's equipment. I don't think you'll find a single tournament who would have an issue with this.

It is worth noting, sadly, that somewhere along the way the Chaos Dreadnought lost its combi-weapon (shown in the shoulder/chest above) that used to be a weapon option for these guys.

Are you just trying to diqualify my first kitbash?
That is not nice, and no nobody cares really.
A hellbrute is just a dread.
A dread with a silly name, and anger issues because of after mentioned name.

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

All my Helbrutes are based on the Dreadnought and Venerable Dreadnought kits. Never had a problem.

Even the FW-Dreads are Helbrutes nowadays. If you bought one of the legion specific dreads GW would tell you to play it as a helbrute (In apocalypse there's also the infernus dreadnought of old, but not in normal 40k).
I can't imagine anyone having a problem with it, the helbrute is simply the updated model of the chaos dread und unlike the updated model for a beast of Nurgle it even kept its model and base size mostly.

I don't think anyone would care and in if I'm honest I like the old dread look more than the meaty hellbrutes which look like they do crazy amounts of squat thrusts working out them ripped bodes..
