Subject: Does Kubrick Chenkov not exist in 40k 8th ed. rules anymore?

Hello again fellow guards players.
I was wondering does commander Kubrick Chenkov not exist at all in the codex or rules anywhere for valhallens?
I was debating starting an army and buying a Kubrick model but I cant seem to find any rule for him at all or any stats for him and of course yarrick is still around and such.
If anyone knows anything let me know.
(Same for the tallarn commanders, etc)

Nope, he no longer exists in 8th. But his "send in the next wave" ability exists as a stratagem. Just be warned that it's absolutely terrible and you should never try to use it.

I wish they would give him new rules and maybe remodel him like they did yarrick.
I wonder why they kept him around and not the others.....strange

I was wrong. I really didnt give the codex much of a look but I think some may be better in certain situations. What I suppose I was trying to say, like another man said here first, they range from very good to meh and not worth taking. I didnt mean they were all horrible

Pask would like to disagree, as would Harker and Straken.

Straken and Harker both disagree. Sometimes even Pask.
Guard have 8 I think named characters:
Straken
Harker
Marbo
Creed
Kell
Pask
Yarrick
Raine
Straken is good, Harker is really good, and Pask is basically a must-have in a Cadian list.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

Chenkov is not here anymore, but his mighty bolt pistol has been carried over in the new edition.
The Pietrov Mk45 is a relic you give to a Valhallan commander.
It strengthens morale around the bearer and has a 12", Pistol 2, Str 4, AP-1, damage 2 stat-line, which is cool.

Indeed. Give this pistol an a power sword to a Valhallan commander, use "send in the next wave" stratagem. There's your Chenkov. No need to waste space on dedicated rules for things that can be created via the generic rules.

Very true! I thought about that

I don't know, I like most of the guard characters. However, only some are great and some are meh to bad. I'm probably just looking at them with rose colored shades as I love my guard.

No you are right. I love guard too! I was just being a salty boy :-) Automatically Appended Next Post: Hey thanks to everyone on here for the help!
I'm kind of new to the tabletop setting so I'm just trying to figure things out. One thing is for sure and that's that guard is the best!

He still "exists" as a historical/fluff character. He just doesn't have a current model or rules.
He's also a reminder of the worst you can find in the Imperial Guard. He gets the medals and glory for doing nothing other than spamming MOAR CONSCRIPTS, and is such a first rate son of a bitch that commisars are scared less of him.

In his defense he's known for accomplishing objectives in record time no matter the odds. Granted his casualty figures are horrendous even by guard standards but he gets called in when something needs to be done yesterday and even his casualties are nothing compared to what will happen if the mission fails.
Not excusing that he's pretty heartless, but he knows exactly what he's doing and why. At least I'm pretty sure that's his lore from the old codex, nestled nicely between clearing minefields with conscripts to get a tank column flanking the enemy. Or that time he was ordered to take a massive fortress with no artillery or tank support so he threw hundreds of thousands of conscripts at a fortress's walls to distract enemy fire from the demolition teams sneaking up.
Also I'm pretty sure you can still buy him and Al Raheem, they just don't have rules. Which is weird because not only are the models still available most of the time, but their regiment relics are their weapons, and their strats are their old abilities, and their regiments have specific rules. So why they didn't bother to just let us take them I'll never know. It's not like age mattered or anything. Kell is dead and we can still take him. Oh well.
