Just putting together a backstory for an army I have on the back-burner. This first part is about the world itself, will post about the actual regiment later. Comments and suggestions always welcome!

Home World: Darigaaz
Location: Segmentum Obscurus (About Halfway between Mordia & Valhalla)
Classification: Mining World
Climate: Originally a largely hospitable planet, the atmosphere underwent a drastic shift following The Great Cataclysm when an immeasurable amount of gasses was ejected into the atmosphere. Immense heat has killed off most indigenous flora and fauna, with only a select few being able to quickly adapt to their new environment.
During the day surface temperatures rise to between 130 degrees and 150 while nighttime can range between 70 and 90. This is attributed to the immense heat pouring from the oceans below that still manages to cool off before reaching surface level, adding to the suns heat and negating cooler temperatures at night.
Geography: As of now, over 50% of the surface is covered in lava and volcanic rock formations. Cities and mining structures exist on a patchwork of what remains of the planets surface miles above the seas of fire.
History: The world of Darigaaz has long served as an important source of different minerals and gases stretching back to the earliest days of the Imperium. Following the Horus Heresy, the world saw a surge in support from the Imperial government to bolster both it's defenses and resource extraction. It was not long before there were multiple major cities and mining installations popping up in every corner of the world.
During the early days of the Thirteenth Black Crusade, forces loyal to Abbadon attempt a seizure of the planet to establish a foothold in the sector. While wave after wave of Chaos lands on the surface, the imperial garrison prove too ingrained to be dislodged. With reinforcements being dispatched from both Mordia and Valhalla it wasn't long before Abbadon decided to abandon his attempt to capture Darigaaz. Instead, he orders a barrage of surface-penetrating missiles to destroy it.
Though there wasn't enough time to finish it off completely, the weapons inflict a deadly blow and triggers a series of massive seismic events all over the planet that came to be known as "The Great Cataclysm". In a matter of days nearly a third of the planet's surface had crumbled and fallen back into the molten core beneath it, taking the lives of countless soldiers and civilians. Darigaaz still proved invaluable to the Imperium however as massive mineral and gas deposits still existed in what remained of its land and under the seas of lava.
