Subject: FW Hive Tyrant into a custom Swarm Lord WIP + Biovore
So Apocalypse has me excited for the game again and even better it made the swarmlord into a unit that is GREAT. I had a custom swarmlord made from a tyrant before but I used ScyTal because I never liked the Bone swords. Then Hydra cast decided to make some great Boneswords and now here I am making my custom Swarmlord take 2.
First of all my inspirations for the custom bits I am doing.
Inspirations
Spoiler:
I am going to add the side mandibles to the face from this. I also like the split tail. Thats going to happen also.
This being the inspiration for the forgeworld Tyrant I am going to take those extra forward spikes on the crest and add them to the SLs crest. Help him stand out better from other FW tyrants.
I like what this guy did adding a double row of back vents. I don't have thin ones like that, but I do have some spare vent bits from something around and they allow me to fill the hollow bit with green stuff and add some texture. So this is going to happen.
So today I did all my cleaning up the resin and I started parts of my assembly. In the cleaning up I noticed that one of the small shoulder spikes broke off the shoulder armor bit. Oh well. I clipped them all off and put on some bigger spikes I had laying around from something. They will need a little green stuff to blend into the armor plate better but thats just one more thing to help the SL stand out as a cut above the rest.
Spoiler:
Here are those hydra cast bits I got! So good.
Spoiler:
Here is a shot of the back vents and the assembled body. You can see the added shoulder spikes. No arms just yet.
Spoiler:
And here are a few shots of the head so far. I took some warrior rending claws and clipped off the fingers to make the mandibles.
Spoiler:
I have the carnifex head blade to add the forward facing bits on the crest. I have one and realized I was short one. The second is in the mail now. Tomorrow will probably be green stuff work to smooth out my modifications thus far. Maybe I will chop up and assemble my tail bits and get the double tail going before I do the green stuff.

I used a 50/50 mix of greenstuff and superfine milliput to do my blending and modeling.
The tail was completed and attached. The blending is done. All the extra bits attached.
Spoiler:
There is some very slight clean up I did after these pictures. Mostly some smoothing on the back. But it's all in place and the paint will work with what I have done to come out looking good.
Right now I applied some elmers glue to the smooth bits of the base and I applied some of my basing rock material. Il get a second coat of the glue to keep it down and then it's prime and paint time.
BONUS!
I made my new Biovore.
I used a resin Pyrovore as the base and got my inspiration from a combination of my Exocrine design and the really old classic biovore with the spindly insect like front legs.

Really nice work looking forward to seeing the swarmlord painted up. I like the mandibles idea! Plus its great to see the Hydracast arms in use, I've got my eye on them as well for my own eventual lord of the hive!

Thanks!
Now with paint!
I JUST applied the grass so the glue for that is still drying. Tomorrow I will give the whole thing a clear coat which will kill the shine a little on the shell (but not entirely remove it ( I use a spray water based polyurethane satin)).
The Shell is done using Golden's Green/Orange color shift paint. Which never looks as good in pictures as it does in real life. You can see some of the shift in some of the pictures.
Spoiler:
Very Happy with how this one came out. I will be putting the 1.0 version up for sale soon in the swap shop now that the 2.0 is complete.
