Do you know a safe way to remove a model that is glued down to a base. The plastic models are basically fused to the plinth.
When players were rebasing models for Age of Sigmar, number one tip was "do not remove model from the base - remove base from the model instead". However, if you have used PVA glue to attch the gravel, it may be possible to remove basing material without having to replace the base.
The main reason why the bases looked weird is the choice of colours.Strong contrast between colours isn't bad per se but base rim is usually the darker of two colours. White or light grey just looks unnatural without context.
Also, I you are using sand or gravel to base models it is better to have access to multiple grain sizes. Paint the whole base with PVA, sprinkle some small rocks or gravel first, then pour over finer sand. Painting bases is super easy nowadays. Paint the base with Grey seer or Wraithbone and apply a Contrast paint of your choice. Nice and easy and no need for drybrushing. For example, Grey seer followed by Gryph-charger grey contrast makes a great looking urban base for minimum effort.
