Hi, I was thinking of getting into Apocalypse and have a few questions before I decide.

From what I’ve read I think the game mechanics seem pretty fun and introduce a lot of things that appeal to me and would have like to see in mainstream 40k - alternate activation of a sort, damage resolved at the end of the round etc.

Before I jump in, my main concern is does anyone know if there is going to be ongoing support for the format. I play an all Primaris space marine army in 40k and with a lot of new models getting released right now, are there likely to be Apocalypse rules for new models?

Also, as an aside, I don’t have 5000pts of 40k or anything like it, but would quite enjoy the ability to play huge games at that scale, has anyone tried playing Apocalypse using one model to represent a whole unit, doing away with the movement trays? That way my 15 Intercessors could represent 15 units in Apocalypse etc. Is this something that could be feasible with the rule set? Actually thinking on this, it might be a fun way to represent fluff marines/movie marines. Where one marine has the stats for the whole unit, but still field the “correct” number of models for horde armies like nids, orks and guard?

Well...I guess you could do that? Movement trays are not required in apocalypse, I've played games with 30-man ork blobs and just moved them manually and the decreased emphasis on micro positioning meant I didn't have to care as much where a single model was, so I could move them much more quickly.

1 model could be 1 unit theoretically but unit footprint is a factor in how powerful they are, so uou lose that. But it might be cool?

We don't know. Currently the new dread, in....ductus? The new tank, and the new bolter infantry don't have rules, so time will tell.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

How many points do you have? Most people are playing around 150pl games of apocalypse. Which is roughly a 2000pt game of 40k.

I have about 1700-1900 points at the moment and more models waiting to be assembled and painted so it seems that should be enough to play Apocalypse then.

I think i’ll hold off until rules are released for the newer units before I commit.

The unit rules are free pdfs. It seems pretty likely that they will release army updates at some point to at least account for the new models.

As others said, time will tell. But in the meantime apoc is a far better game with less downtime and quicker matches.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

If you are playing Primaris only you'll really need to fill out your army to really make the most out of your Apoc experience.

Yiu have to think at the detachment level rather than individual until level. When you build a detachment, make sure that you have like things together. Since you're activating and ordering with more units, they need to be functionally cohesive.

It is more fun(opinion) than reg 40k and hope that some of the stuff(alt activations, d12 to wound, saves at end, & orders)end up in 40k.
