Hey guys,

Like the title says, after 20 years of lurking, and only modeling and or working on my huge terrain board, I’ve decided to actually try to play the game.

I started a custom planetary guard army which count as Vostroyan. I went with this army due to the theme of my huge City fight table and because I really like doing things more custom. My city has lots of cover and really long distances to shoot across (good for guard and the 6” buff)

Anyhow, I really don’t know how to build a AM list,more specifically how to build a Vostroyan list and how to get the most out of its buffs, nor even more importantly how to build a list I would like modeling but would also not get destroyed on a normal table top and possible play ok on my city fight table.

Big picture: not trying to win any tournaments but I still want to build an army that could kick butt from time to time and fit in with my table

I’ve built and started painting about 1,100 points and tried playing them for the first time yesterday. After getting my butt kicked by blood angels, I decided I need help with advice on how to kit them and how to fill up the remaining 900 or so points.

Questions:

1) how do you even make a sniper squad? Veterans, special weapons squad or is there an actual sniper squad somewhere?
2) what’s better Vostroyan snipers or rattlings?
3) should I have heavy weapons teams in my infantry squads or separate? I had to move a lot and the changed the bs to 5+
4) should I create a veteran plasma gun team or something g like that?
5) would sisters make a good ally? I want to run Celestine and my table due to all the different heights and gaps could really benefit from some jump packs
6) what sponsons are good for Vostroyan leman?
7) are there any buffs I’m missing to help increase my infantry bs or weapon strengths?
8) how should I arm my sergeants? I had las pistols but updated my list to show bolters to get the 6” range bonus and plan to modify the models this week
9) what special weapons should infantry carry? I had grenade launchers which I thought would be good for heavy terrain as the ignorant line of site but I guess the internet hates those and they don’t get the 6” buff

Company command squad, can give each of the 4 veterans a sniper rifle. This is the closest you can get to a sniper squad after rattlings.

2) what’s better Vostroyan snipers or rattlings?
I would say neither are as good as the sniper assassin.

3) should I have heavy weapons teams in my infantry squads or separate? I had to move a lot and the changed the bs to 5+

I only run mortar heavy weapon squads seperatley, easier to hide otherwise hws's in the open tend to get blown off the table

4) should I create a veteran plasma gun team or something g like that?
I don't run veterans at all this edition.

5) would sisters make a good ally? I want to run Celestine and my table due to all the different heights and gaps could really benefit from some jump packs

Sounds good to me, if nothing else will add some mobility.

6) what sponsons are good for Vostroyan leman?
Tank commanders with normal turret and hull lascannon have served me well in this edition.

7) are there any buffs I’m missing to help increase my infantry bs or weapon strengths?
Orders from officers and that's about it.

I run mine bare bones, points are better spent elsewhere

9) what special weapons should infantry carry?
