Just a bit of fun. I am lucky enough that my family will indulge in a game now and then. They have played Rampant Stars, Nercromunda, Gorkamorka, All Quiet on the Martian Front, and other games with me. I have noticed they prefer skirmish games with few models and prefer campaign games where you can lose but still have an okay outcome. So, I decided to order a ton of Osprey games skirmish games for myself. I am a bit of a rules nutter.

Over time, I ordered:

Frostgrave (with supplements)
Dracula's America (With supplements)
Burrows and Badgers
Land of the Free
Last Days
Ragnarok
Broken Legions
Ronin
Gaslands

I showed them to the family, let them page through them, and gave them a synopsis of each game. I asked them what they wanted to build and play a campaign for next. The unanimous answer was.....

Burrows and Badgers

I should have expected that. I am aware of the Oathsworn models (which look great in the book) but are there other sources for models as well?

Honestly when you said family skirmish game I thought of Burrows and Badgers. I got into their last KS and was mightily impressed with their models and the whole setting just seems like it was lifted from the 80-90s cartoon era in a fantasy setting. Models have a lot of great character to them.

If you want another source of models you might try Reaper, they've a huge catalogue of models in metal and in Bones. The Bones material doesn't hold as much detail, but its great for large dragons and beasties. They've also got a KS going out this year (later on) which is going to use a new Bones recipe which holds better detail and is a bit stiffer - so a marked improvement for smaller models.

Their KS are also really well run and they generally have a very solid method for them now. It might not have the charm of the Oathsworn models, but it would give you some bugbears and dragons and such at a very affordable rate.

Does Oathsworn have a US distributor?

The splintered light ones IIRC tend a little smaller, if I recall, though probably not out of line with the mice/shrews from Oathsworn, likewise Reaper. I'd have to go dig 'em out to be sure. Likewise, the few Dark Sword ones I have seem to be a bit closer to the wildcat/fox/badge size from oathsworn, and a little more cartoonishly proportioned--probably useable though.. On the Lamb Games closed, IIRC, but it might be worth looking for some of their stuff on e-bay--they called the line "Brushfire." Can probably grab a fair few outta my cabinet and stockpiles for comparison if that'd be helpful.

Edit: oh, yeah! Mirilton/Grenadier! Mostly just Rat-men, but hey, sometimes rat-men are what you want! Also IronWind/Ral Partha has ratmen, but those are older sculpts that may not be to your taste, and most definitely smaller.
