I just got back from Reapercon. The crowning event of the convention is the painting competition and this Chibi mini took the bronze Sophie (awarded to the third best painted Reaper miniature).

I was pleased with the paintjob on her, but I didn't expect her to win, because every year features quite a lot of very well painted minis from Reaper (this year included). I'm glad that the judges appreciated her.

Thanks.

I talked to some people who found it significant that a chibi could win.

While tastes vary, I don't really see any reason why you can't paint a chibi mini as well as you could some other miniature, you know? And the sculpting on her was top notch, so it isn't like that was a barrier for her.

You know, it's not like I entered the Gummy Bear that I painted.

I find chibi sculpts more intimidating than other scales, as the sculpt does less of the work for you, but I do think it's especially cool that a chibi placed. I also forget Reaper does chibi stuff, beyond the Mr. & Mrs. Bones I own.

Monique was part of the Small World set from Bones 4- which I feel were far and away the best chibis Reaper has yet created.

They're not yet available at retail (and we don't know yet whether they're going to come out in the normal Bones or in Bones Black). I'll definitely be picking up more of them for conversions when they come out.
