So, without buying the upgrade kits for 80 bucks, how would you take Normal Custodian guard spears, and mod them into the Melta spears?
So far my thoughts are either Grabbing the combi-melta off a DW spru, and mounting it on the spear, or chipping the barrel off the normal spear, and mounting a melta barrel.
Thoughts? I don't want to re-build my guard squads too much, they look very nice.

I would accept that in my play group ... not sure there are any official rules on when you should or shouldn't accept a conversion.

As an aside, as "infinite" rolls is actually impossible even if the FAQ "allows" it, then it will always be a non-zero chance to pass them all. Eventually the two players will die. If they pass the game on to their decendents, they too will eventually die. And, at the end of it all, the universe will experience heat death and it, too, will die. In the instance of "infinite" hits, we're talking more of functional infinity, rather than literal.
RAW you can't pass the game onto descendants, permissive ruleset. Unless we get an FAQ from GW. |

Well, it's literally the same model with a different spear. The upgrade spru is just new arms and spears.

Ya, like I said, in my playgroup, everyone would say that was perfectly legit (we'd make fun of you if it didn't look good though, but thats not really a rules thing XD). Really depends on who your playing with.
Back in early 5th I bought a bunch of noise marines and was disapointed to see that the majority of them didint come with the fancy noise weapons (needed an expensive upgrade kit), so what I did was I reshaped their bolt guns and added speakers to the end of them. Everyone I played with was happy with that, even used them at a few tournaments.
But I don't think there are any official rules to quote on this.

Cut off the magazine and paint an orange or red glow.
