Hey all

Started painting my Aeronautica Imperialis Wings of Vengeance aircraft today and realised there is nothing to tell you what any of the decals supplied are meant to be for, besides what aircraft they go on!

As I have no idea about the "fluff" when it comes to Aeronautica Imperialis I have no idea which decals to put where on the aircraft. Probably too late for my Thunderbolts as I've put down a final clear coat on them, but the Marauders and Ork aircraft can get some decals.

Anyone here have any insight on this?

Also, I'm struggling for inspiration for the Ork aircraft. I've base coated the Dakkajets in Evil Sunz Scarlet, and I want to paint the Bombas differently but I don't have a clue about any alternative colour schemes. Anyone here able to offer some ideas?

You might just google 40k DakkaJet pics because the kit has been around for 10 years so there’s plenty of inspiration out there. Black are the goffs, the toughest and meanest of a tough, mean race. Yellow are the Bad Moons, the wealthiest orks with the fanciest stuff. Blue are the Deffskulls whose equipment closely resembles that of other orks’ missing gear but covered in still-drying blue paint. It’d be harder to pull off Snakebites, the feral orks, at this scale as you can’t really add skulls and animal bones. Blood Axes are the stealthier orks so a Camo scheme maybe? Freebootas, Ork mercenaries, would be fun - paint them as pirates!

The AI rulebook is scant on fluff details but I’ve seen markings all over imperial jets so there doesn’t appear to be an one unifying scheme, it depends on their wing. There are pics of the 40k scale models on the FW site. Either pick an established one or just wing it [har har] and make up your own. Are you an RAF fan? Look at how they do their identifiers and copy that. I’ve got a folder of P51 pics to work from.
