After the original 8th marine codex it looked like squads of 5 were a thing in the new company structure. Now the codex says they are squads of 10 but can do different things such as drive vehicles and such. My question is this: would it be “normal” for a squad to break into 6 Aggressors, 3 Suppressors, and an Invictor?

You see I am hopelessly caught on the fluff and want to paint a full company “correctly” because I just can’t help it.

it sounds like squads can indeed be broken into squads of 5, but the number of marines in a company numbers about 100 (give or take command squads etc)
however the "codex revised" allows more flexability in that you can opt to have 10 squads of ten, or 20 squads of 5. among those squads you can also have 3 man squads with extra marines being moved into other roles such as warsuit operation etc.

So whereas prior to the reforms, a battle company would have 2 devestator squada of 10 marines each, the new one might have 2 5 man hell blaster squads, 1 3 man eliminator squad, 2 3 Man Agressor squads. and a free floating marine is then assigned to operate a warsuit.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

That’s wonderful.

The primary thing that squads of ten would mean is that for example if the squad is detached to another company, then all ten marines would go, even if the commonly operate as one or two separate squads and different types of squad. Outside of battle, the five-marine + three-marine + two vehicle-crew would still be one ten marine squad.

From an insignia perspective you might want to make sure that if you have broken up squads, one sergeant has an iron skull on his shoulder pad, the marking for sergeant, and the other sergeant has an iron halo painted on his pad, the marking for a combat squad leader.

Apparently, a single red stripe down the helmet is typical codex marking for a combat squad leader who isn't a Sergeant.

The leader of a combat sqaud could have a veteran colour also helmet, not a first veteran colour but im Sure veterans have distinctive markings and helmet colour. White I think?

Have a general sqaud, and it's combat leader bears a veteran helmet and maybe gilded details on a shoulder pad or extra badge, honour marks or so?

Unless white helm with red stripe is taken by the lt now?

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.
