Hi guys!

By way of background, I haven't played tabletop war-games since childhood. When I was a kid and the Lord of the Rings movies were new, my father and I went to the local GW and bought the new LOTR set together. We spent a few years painting models, playing, making battlefields, and I had a great time. (Side note, I'm sure GW doesn't even support/update the LOTR game anymore, and I doubt it has active players, but I remember loving it.) Anyway, recently I've had the itch to get back into tabletop gaming in general, and I remembered how much fun I had painting miniatures and playing when I was a kid, and I figured if I was going to get back into tabletop I'd love to get back into war-games as well, and 40k seems right up my alley with its ridiculous-but-cool grim dark sci-fi action stuff. I like the lore that I know, and would love to learn more. I have a friend that makes home-brew armies and that looks like loads of fun

My cousin and I are thinking of picking up the First Strike set just to get our feet wet, and then get further into the hobby from there. In particular I'd love to build an army of Space Wolves, I love the aesthetic and the little bit of lore I know surrounding it. Any tips on beginning steps aside from the First Strike set? I'm not looking to get into heavy competition and go deep into the meta (although as a dedicated Hearthstone player I do love studying and playing to meta games), I'm more looking forward to using it as a creative outlet, especially the painting, and a way. to play friendly games. If I get into more serious competition from there, so be it. Any good tips for beginners? Are there particular threads on the forum I should look for? Thanks, and look forward to talking with you guys and maybe even playing some games!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
