Hey guys, I've been kinda away from the tables for a few years now. I used to play pretty often, at least once a week and with the past edition. I'm still getting used to the latest edition and haven't been able to play enough to really polish my lists.
So I come to you for advise, I think I've lost pretty much every single game on this edition, each with a different list thou, as I'm trying to adapt to the new rules. This is my latest list which still lost but I think it did a lot better than its previous iterations, and I think it was pretty fun to play so I'm asking for your critical eye to spot how to upgrade it. I am not looking for a ultra competitive list but a strong one that remains somewhat fluffy so that I could get a win would be nice.
Hey man welcome back. CSM can be a competitive in 8th but they rely heavily on boosting up single units to be super tough and often need help from daemon heralds to make the most out of them.
If you want to add to this list you could do a few things differently. Here's some of the options to up the potency of what you've got.
1) take more warptalons, at least one unit of 10 maybe more. Then a daemon patrol, either nurgle with a herald and 3 nurglings, give him virulent blessing and use them as anti tank. Or a khorne herald and give him the crimson crown.
2) FW dreads (I know out of the uk these are ridiculously expensive) but if you give them butcher cannons they synergise really well with nightlords. Plus the night lords contemptor model is pretty awesome.
3) Change a lot of the weapon loadout on your bezerkers. Go for chainaxe and chainsword. Put a powerfist on champion and nothing else. Each rhino should be full so you can either have 10 or 9 and pit champion in there.
4) split up CSM into 5 man units and add in 2 more troops choices for extra cp.
So you obviously can't do all of the above but whichever you choose cut points in the other. You could drop bezerkers and lean heavily into warptalons or vice versa.

I do have a small khorne daemon force I could use, I guess I should read the new rules for daemons, from a quick google search the crimson crown would be to increase the attack output on the warptalons right?, How do you get the herald positioned near them? Jugger? Summon? On a side note... warptalons are good now? I do have a full squad never thought they shifted from the worst unit in CSM to a viable one.

I do have a contemptor it is a CCW one so, swithing it for butcher cannons might work, I'd completely ignored the rules for it but they indeed seem great for a Night Lords army

I did see some conversions with both weapons never understood why. You can still only attack with one profile right? Is it just to give them versatility at the cost of a few extra points or am i missing something?
Yeah warptalons can be really potent now, with all the overwatch some armies can put out, their warpflame strike is really handy. Plus with hateful assault they are 3 attacks a piece. The host raptorial stratergem to reroll all hits for 1 cp and VotLW makes them super reliable troop killers. And if ypu really need them to can fight twice for 3 cp
If you add the khorne herald in a patrol detachment, he gets the khorne aura. So if you play VotLW on the warptalons, he makes them strength 5, they can reroll charges and they get extra attacks on wound rolls of 5+. So with a few cp spent you can kill 27 marines, 13 primaris or almost a knight, with no possible retaliation!
If you have 20+ bloodletters you can also make a 'bloodletter bomb' which synergises really well with the above because they don't get overwatch and they benifit from herald and crimson crown.
On the bezerkers you get to attack with the chain axe plus one extra swing with the chainsword. Axe generally makes them much more reliable vs marines and the like. Plus you generally don't want to shoot whilst in combat as you might take yourself out of combat and have to charge and take overwatch again.
Really if you take 2 csm battalions and a khorne patrol you could just drop the bezerkers if you wanted to avoid a lot of conversations.
Whatever you run more time playing 8th will make you better. I hadn't played since 5th and it took me a while to get into the swing of things!
