So, I recently left my Custodes Codex at an event, and it got taken to a new home. I am considering buying a new one today on my lunch break, and called my FLGS to see if they had one. They did. I asked if there was possibly a reason to hold off buying this codex, given the Imperium's Codex re-release schedule of late. His answer was....concerning.

He hesitated, for about 5-7 seconds, and then said "yeeeeeessssssss?" As in, one very long yes with a questioning emphasis. He refused to elaborate further, but now I am honestly considering not buying a codex, because we may be getting a new one in the next 2-3 months?

Does anyone think I'm reading into his answer or that I should just shell out and get a new one?

Also, are the digital copies updated since the new FAQ, because it would lessen the cost to just go digital instead of buying the codex and re-writing all the numbers in it.

You're reading way too much into a very vague answer to a very vague question.

Gathering the Informations.

You're reading into his answer. Shops tend to not have knowledge outside of 2-3 weeks, if that.

There's a few exceptions to the rule(we saw that last year with the 'leaked' Christmas stuff in January/February where GW was soliciting input as to what boxes would be the most interesting for retailers), but by and large--they don't know things months out.

The reason for the long yes is because of Psychic Awakening. Mainly because we don't know anything; will it be campaign books like Vigilus? If so, you'll still need a codex. Will it be a theme shared amongst new books like Space Marines 2.0? If so, you'll have to hold off. Even if it is the latter... how soon will it happen? Two months out? Two years ago? We don't know.

Personally, I think you're safe to buy a new book.

Of all the armies which need model revamps (which tie into new codices, etc.) I think Custodes are nearly at the bottom of that list. Might they get one random new unit for some campaign? Maybe. If you're that concerned about it, just run battlescribe for a few months until you're comfortable buying a codex, or buy one used on eBay.

Actually, wouldn’t it be kind of neat if Custodes got a Talons of the Emperor Codex or SOS supplement for the Psychic Awakening?

It gets SOS out of index, Custodes get anti-psyker from SOS, maybe throw in FW rules.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.
