Subject: Dreadnought Choices for Iron Hands (if you want to go the Dread themed lists)

Hello,
I'm curious to know what sort of builds the Dreadnought heavy players have taken in your local metas. I'm personally starting Iron Hands and well as speaking with another local player that has run 5-6 Dreads back in the day of 4th edition. We're at a loss of what sort of Dreadnought mix we should be running if we want to attend local events. Currently I've been told by a local few players " just buy 3 Leviathans omegalul " (Sure I may buy a second one but it's breaking the bank when they're almost the same $$$ price as the new shiny SM tanks)
My Roster:
- Chaplain Dreadnought with Assault Cannon / Fist
- Dreadnought Lascannon + Missiles
- Dreadnought Lascannon + Missiles
- Venerable Dreadnought Plasma Cannon / Fist
- Ironclad Dreadnought with magnetized arms
I also have one dreadnought unbuilt still in the box. Should I make this one another Lascannon/Missiles Dread? Is the Assault Cannon extremely subpar on the Chaplain Dreadnought? I also have a Leviathan unbuilt which I bought off of recommendation that is still in the mail
In terms of troops I tend to run a mix of 15 Scouts and up to 20 Intercessors. For Heavy Support I run 5-10 Hellblasters or 2x5 Devestators with PCs/ LCs. Local meta is CSM/Marine/Eldar/Tau Heavy and the Plasma spam does seemingly well actually.
Quoting another thread for other Anti Tank HVY Support Choices vs IH Dreads:

I suspect taking 3x Mortis dreadnoughts with twin lascannons will be very popular... because you can just make them characters, then you have 12 lascannons per turn firing that cannot be targetted. I honestly expect them to FAQ the character stratagem to be "once per battle" to prevent shenanigans like this, but if they don't, enjoy your unstoppable anti-tank dreads.

Mortis dreads have 10 wounds and are targetable regardless of their character status. You want VenDreads for protected gun batteries.

The Contemptor mortis has 10, the regular mortis only has 8.

Are you talking pure(ish) dreads list or just dread-heavy lists?
Anyways: with IH I would almost say to not go with mortis/deredo/las&missile dreads. Keep some gun and fist, because now we can move and fire our dreads accurately. Even heavy plasma/Macro Plasma Incinerator becomes less dangerous with re roll 1s.
Battalion I recently made was multimelta and HF regular dread, asscann + storm bolter dread, Macro Incinerator + onslaught redemptor and Invictor w/Ironhail AC. Could shift some points around the rest of the list for a Plasmacannon vendread to character up.
i still have 4 regular dreads from older editions, so I am pretty happy with the supplement granting me more reason to play with them.

What points level are you looking at? I've currently got 3 Ven Dreads (Lascannon & Fist), 2 Ironclads (Hurricane & Chainfist) & a Redemptor in my 2k list (plus an Invictor Warsuit) - the Vens have been doing most of the work (especially when being followed around by a Lt.).

I'd say it's "Pure" Dreadnought since I'm trying to run 6 with no other vehicles
I'll try and run something similar to this actually - Hurricane & Chainfist seems great - even when walking. The Chaplain Dread is more of a "Cool model" addition but I might look into Mortis Dreadnoughts and the Redemptor What Redemptor load outs do you prefer?
edit: Horst I love your Auroras I saw that at an event during 5th or 6th edition if I recall

Double Onslaught is always good no matter what.
Macro Incinerator is more useful now.
Paired storm bolters.
If you haven't built one yet: never worry about magnatizing the heavy flamer and Onslaught; just glue on the onslaught. Also glue the bit that connects the gun to the arm... To the arm, after slicing off most of the pegs tha swivel in the guns; this lets you change out the guns and they stay on rather well.
Storm bolters have 1 more shot than average dice on the fragstorm and longer range. While the fragstorm has potentially more shots, the added range and always double tapping bolter discipline means the storm bolters will have more shots over the course of the game.

For an Iron Hands Redemptor, Macro Plas + Mini-Onslaught is a solid all around threat. The innate reroll 1 and ability to move and fire are massive boons to the plasma.

Double Onslaught it is! I'll have to pick one up in the future. Seems like a dramatically better value than the Venerable Dread with the Plasma Cannon!

Every list in our area is non-stop balls to the wall leviathans with autocannons, and it's absolutely stupid. Apparently our three best players have tabled every army they've gone up aginst by turn two by spamming those stupidly powerful FW pieces.

You mean stupidly powerful relic, doctirine and trait combination.
It's like rotate ion shield strategum for Knights you bait it out then destroy the other one. If they're going to spend 1000 points of their list on them your talking knights style counter strategum and it does work.
Not seeing other chapters spamming them to infinity, also you think that's bad wait till they find the ability to abuse the charictor dread strategum.
Best news is apparently the two supplements still to come are ironhands power or above, so usual GW balance levels achieved.

Levis are 300+ point units. Three of them is half a list almost literally.

I heard that IH is nerfed heavily by FAQ with the following:
1. Iron father only grant 5++ to infantry
2. Iron stone only save the ass of ONE vehicle, and you have to designate that vehicle at the start of a battle round, so your enemy is free to kill everything else.
3. The repair twice stratagem do not go over the limiation on receiving end, i. e. you can not restore 6 wound on that one heavily damaged Repulsor, you can only restore 3 wounds each on 2 vehicles
4. Psychic Power of repairing vehicles suffers same issue.
5. Character Dread Stratgem is now one use only.
IH is still very powerful, especially for Dreadnought spam. But it is no longer the "oh so OP" several weeks ago.
If your opponent brings two or more Leviathan Dread, concentrate and shoot the one without Ironstone buff, and MW it till death. Repulsor executioner could be an even easier prey now without that 5++.

With the nerf - I've switch the list out to a more 'Spammy" dread style list. I want to go for "Cheap Dreads". Note: I do not own the mortis dreads
- Chaplain Dreadnought with Assault Cannon / Fist
- Dreadnought Lascannon + Missiles
- Dreadnought Lascannon + Missiles
- Dreadnought Lascannon + Missiles
- Venerable Dreadnought Plasma Cannon / Fist
- Ironclad Dreadnought with magnetized arms
- Ironclad Dreadnought with magnetized arms
Ferros with a possible (Smash Capt or Lib or Tech Marine) followed by Scouts, Intercessors, and I wanted to run the Apoth/Ancient combo if I'm running scouts to boost durability for the screens. I do not see a point in running a Whirlwind now and may choose the Thunderfire Cannon option

They were nerf3s by the FAQ but thise thread was mostly writen pre- FAQ when they were in full on busted rofl stomp rules.
But the point still stand if someone's dropping multiple strategums and relics to keep 1 unit alive.
Accept it and counter play to avoid it's damage and kill everything else in your opponents list.
