Subject: Getting back, 1 year pause! Which shoulder for the Sergeant?

Hello,
I had a lazy year, no excuses here, there is always the time if you want it, I was just lazy. Long story short, still painting for the beloved Ultramar!
Which shoulder pad can be the one for the sergeant? Devastators have a "fixed" shoulderpad for the arm carrying the weapon and a free one for the other arm. So I would like to use Ultramarines proper pads, but which one can be for a Sergeant? The top ones look for Lieutenant (3/6) and Captain (8/9), or can they also be put on a Sarge?

Any of them can work. Obviously the more ornate ones you probably want to reserve for officers, but a lot depends on what you like. And how ornate the rest of your army is; some people bing out their sarges more than others. With that arm pose you might have an issue with some of the raised rims clipping with the backpack.

Ok thanks! Then 8 looks great, I'll have to try and see if it fits! 9, the U with the skull inside, I think has a meaning (I can't remember but I've already seen that) so I'll save that for someone else.
BTW: looked up your ultramarine thread, great job for the Emperor! Too bad for the Eldar but sometimes we have weaknesses

The only shoulder pad there with a specific rank insignia is #9. The skull (which should be red in a Codex-adherent chapter like the UM) is the mark of a sergeant.
The laurels on pads #4 and #6 are an honour badge awarded for exceptional valour. They're often seen on chapter and company ancients (standard bearers), but laurels are not exclusive to them. Per the Codex Astartes, ancients are selected from among those marines who have earned laurels.
The bolt shell hanging from pad #5 is the marksman's honour.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry. |

thanks for sharing the knowledge! Then #9 looks extra sweet, I was wrong thinking ti can't be for Sergeants. I always do bad rolls taking aim, so no marksman's honour for my squads, lol.
