Ok trying to field an a single faction army that will kill the Tyranid/ork/astra militarum lists I tend to play against often 150-215 models on the table . What do you guys think? Somewhat controversial, no captain/chapter master. Trying to make use of Iron Hands built in re roll 1s to hit on heavy weapons and light on CP only 8 on game start and might regen 3 over the first 3 turns. Model selection is not an issue, I have many!

on reflection, my "style" in marines is different from my "style" in gaurd. So the advice I gave there wasn't coherent. As iron hands goes, I believe your list would give most imperial gaurd lists fits, but I am not so sure about the nids.
Did you mean "any" marine pure detachment? Or is only ironhands on the table?
OK. Trying again. But I recommend stronly ravengaurd for anti-horde.

Ravengaurd works excellent against a gaurd gunline, and has the alpha strike ability that no other marine force can match. Intercessers are a solid but expensive troop choice and that detracts from board control in plotting anti-horde moves.

The superduper unkillable dreadnaught is most useful against heavy tanks or similar antitank, and it is much like one knight struggling to step on 100 ants against a horde. You would be better off with something that is mostly dakka with antitank as well, and has multiple modeles per unit.

Remove all intercessors and replace them with 6 regular tac marine 5 man groups. add a lieutenant (standard stock lieu) with the teeth of terra for 60. Give the 6 squads each a missle launcher and storm bolter.
You have 13 command points where you had five, and your dakka is far more spread out. In the dev phase, your rockets hit as d6 -1 1 missles out to 48 inches, and your bolterfire per squad puts out a useful 10 bolter shots. Each squad if more than 12 inches from the foe, is in cover and -1 to be hit. You can also mess up middle to light armor with these units without trouble, your s8 -3 d6 rocket krak mode will put paid to basilisk and manticore alike, and is seriously threatening even to heavier things.

You have 333 points left to spend (or 296 if I forgot to add an aggressor)
I might consider swaping the anti-horde mode mortise dakka for anti tank dakka (dual twin lascannons, which are 22 points more per dread, I believe) oh, I forgot 60 for the lieut. 252 remain, enough for some fun -- 3 squads of 3 scout bikes, with shotgun, dual bolter, chainsword, each.
just before turn 1, you can put all the bikers (who can run) and the aggressors (who don't have to) up 9 inches frmo your opponent by spending a mere 5 cp. The dakka that puts out is legendary, and will seriously impact a light horde unit screen. Its about 150 shots.

If you are faced with going second, don't infiltrate them that way, but screen heavily with ac 2 tac marines and have their potential firepower as an antihorde defense line.

I know the 4 intercessors probably have more combat power than 6 tac squads, but 6 tac squads with 6 missles start to get back the anti-infantry utility you gave up, OR can swap to potshot tankers in support of the mortises' 8 lascan a round.

Thanks for the feedback. I prefer to play Iron hands or Ultramarines just because I like them. And I like that Iron hands are a bit less of a glass cannon than other space marines. Dropping super dread might be a good idea. I didn't take him for all this unkillable rubbish people are overhyping, 1 termagaunt can shut him down. He is just a zone of 30 inch tank busting Flyrant/carnafex destroying hatred. But that is pretty limited range for so many points. I just copied from battlescribe so some stuff is hard to see. But it is 6 aggresors, 5 norms and a sergeant. I was keeping them in a lump so the iron father can make the whole unit hit on 2s and I can use auspex scan or overwatch on 4+ strats on the lump. With the mini marines vs the big boys I can see what you are saying. The load out you mention is 82pts for 5 and its 85pts for 5 intercessors. 10 wounds for the Intercessors vs 5 for the Tacticals. I just find tactical marines disappear at an alarming rate. I was also planning to use the shoot twice strat on my big 10 man unit. I do have a lieutenant, do you mean add another? I made him primaris to resist snipers a bit more as he is warlord and holds the ironstone. Its 46pts more per dread to go lascannon. I'll post the new list see what you think. It now has 11 Cp instead of 8 and 1 extra unit of troops and 1 extra dread and an extra librarian. But the troops have 45 wounds vs 52 in the old list. The Dreads have 8 lascannons vs the 2 storm cannon arrays. 8 shots vs 20 but with good range and better damage. Weak against invulnerable saves, Bullgryns, Flyrants ect. 1 librarian is tanked up with armour and storm shield to make it hard to snipe warlord and the iron stone.
