Hello all. Starting to think about a team tournament later on in the year and ran into an issue.
With Space Marines new, more in-depth Chapter Tactics rules what do you gain and lose by having two different Successor Detachments to the same First Founding Chapter?

For example, let’s say Battalion A is a White Scars Successor using Traits 1 and 2, and Battalion B is also White a Scars Successor using Traits 3 and 4.

Would they both get the rules for White Scars? Their Traits? Doctrines? What do they gain and lose?

Thanks for the assistance!

No you can create a white scars successor useing custom tactics

You then get then get the benefits as outlined in the supplement for successor chapters such as psychic powers.

The supplements are clear which benefits you get and which you don't as a successor theirs a page at the front

Having 2 different successors in different detatchments is fine

However tournaments may want you to differentiate the different battalions so your opponent doesnt get confused which unit is in which

If you have two different successors in the same battalion you would not benefit from the doctrine etc as it is a mixed detatchment

It really depends on what the house rules for said tournament are, and we can not give you those answers.

If it’s anything like last year the house rules wouldn’t effect my example.

Thanks all for the help!

This is explained in the supplement (I assume White Scars is the same as IH, don't have access to the WS atm).
It specifically says that to gain the supplement extra doctrine bonus every unit in the army needs to be from the White Scars or the same successor chapter.
In your example Battalion A and Battalion B are different successor chapters, even if you both call them the Rainbow Warriors, because they have different traits. Therefor you don't get access to the extra Doctrine bonus.

First of all, I apologize for this :(. I'm slightly an idiot

Let me get this reeeal clear about the Successor Chapter traits (page 176-177 Space Marines codex)

If I use a Raven Guard successor chapter I:
- do not get the Raven guard chapter tactic (Over 12" shooting we count as being cover and if non-vehicle is really in cover it gets -1 to hit)

- do get Raven guard "super doctrine" (+1 to hit and wound against characters when in tactical docrine), Raven Guard strategems, and all other Raver guard gak from Raven Guard codex
- AND I get to choose 2 tactics from the Successor Chapter traits from the main codex page 176-177

Correct. You can, however, choose to use Inheritors of the Primarch to get the Raven Guard chapter tactic anyway. You also loose access to any Raven Guard Named Characters and have to pay an extra CP for any Raven Guard relics.
