So after all the help and advice I've received on Dakka, I've decided to invest in an old school Castraferrum pattern Dreadnought!
Have seen a couple on eBay which might save me a few £££ too.
Now I just need to consider what I'm equipping it with.
I want the lascannons because I need some big firepower (already have AC and HB on my landspeeder to harass and whittle down infantry).
Just don't know whether to go for close combat weapon on other arm (so it's effective if it ends up toe-to-toe) or go all out long range and go for the missile launcher?
Thoughts/recommendations?

It's often recommended to run them as full dakka rather than hybrid. If you're keeping it at the back blasting away with lascannons, there's no point in paying for a close combat weapon you're never likely to use.
Weapon loadout can also change depending on your chapter.

If you go full dakka you need to shield them, otherwise they could be tied up in melee.

Would you recommend going hybrid, then?

A lot depends upon the chapter your running.
I've used both missle lascannons and lascannons mellee.
Your not going to be cutting through hordes is CC but it can allow you to make an opportunity charge against that annoying blocking transport etc.
But generally moving a dreadnaught is a loosing dreadnaught due to the inevitable -1 to hit on an expensive model with limited shots.
Missiles arnt great but outaide of Forgeworld are probably the best codex option for a gun dreadnaught.

Running a BA successor chapter (custom) - have actually decided to go for a 5 man Hellblaster squad (found a very good value one on eBay) and a BA Furioso dreadnought with a pair of Furioso fists and a magna-grapple (with storm bolter and meltagun as fist weapons). Will use the Hellblasters for ranged firepower and the Furioso as a fast(er) moving horde-shredder. Fit better with my fluff/background and my army.
