I am new to the game and to the forum and of course I have questions. I bought the Primaris start collecting pack which came with intercessors. When I built them I didn’t use helmets because it just didn’t seem like the Space wolf thing to do. My question is probably pretty common but I couldn’t find the answer so here it is. Can I use the intercessor models as Blood claws? They seem to be the more common Space Wolves model I see on just with a lot of advantages over the intercessors and if I knew that before I bought my first pack its what I would have gotten. Thanks to anyone willing to help.

The answer, as with a lot of things in 40k, is "it depends". In most cases, probably not. Intercessors are much larger than Blood Claws and armed very differently so there's some potential for confusion. If your opponent are fine with it, however, there isn't a problem.

Would there be any other type of unit I can convert them to and if not what advantages do the intercessors have over other units so I can use them as is.

Intercessors are harder to kill than regular Blood Claws or Grey Hunters and provide longer-range support than other Space Wolf Troops units thanks to their Bolt Rifles. They make a pretty good unit of basic Troops that can hold objectives and hold ground towards the back of the board while the rest of your Space Wolves do what they do best and charge forward into combat.

Not sure there are too many other units you can convert them into. Space Wolves have quite a unique roster of units which can make conversions from the generic Space Marine line of models a little tricky.

So having them on the back line to hold objectives and maybe soak damage for characters and vehicles while the rest of my make runs in and takes down the enemy at close range. I think I can work with that

Intercessors, to be fair, are really good, though they're better for Vanilla Marine [but everything is better for Vanilla Marines than it is for us]. I'd deploy them near the front in cover, so that they get the most of their 30" range and don't have to move to keep Bolter Drill up, and they can lay down some pretty damaging fire from out of range of the enemy.

That said, you can't really make them blood claws.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

although they're nearly as good in melee as blood claws, having 2 attacks each.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Also my brother gave me a Space Marine Dreadnought from Assault on Black Reach from when he attempted to start playing years ago. (He’s the one that got me into it and now he’s playing Astra Militarum). My question is am I able to use this model and how?

Intercessors are quite good. The assault bolt guns are what I would use them with to maximize the space wolf style of fighting.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

That’s how I used them and probably how I’m going to use them from now on
