I just bought the Chapter Approved 2018 epub because I was interested in a few of the things it included, plus Urban Conquest doesn't have any sort of digital format. What I discovered was that it has so many of the rules I was looking forward to in Urban Conquest already: Conflagration, pollution, height advantage, etc. It seems to me that a big bit of appeal for that Urban Conquest rulebook is the meta-game/map, which I greatly admire...to the point where it's inspired me to make my own system, which means I already have no more use for it lol. Thus my main concern is more about its Cities of Death rules, etc.

So my question is, what *would* I be missing out on in the Urban Conquest rulebook besides the meta-campaign/map rules? What does it have that Chapter Approved 2018 doesn't?

It isn't "fluff" - it's lore.

It has 6 variations of the narrative missions in CA2018 that are specifically tailored to each of the special territory cards. It also has 6 matched play missions that can be played as either eternal war or maelstrom of war and 3 open play missions that are not in CA2018.

Besides those missions, the book contains the original versions of the 6 narrative missions from CA2018. Everything else besides the campaign system as you said is reprinted from CA2018.

I like the tracked medical servitor that comes with Urban Conquest.

The Meta-map piece is cool; I found their campaign system didn't go quite deep enough for me- of the territory cards they provide, only the six that have special missions are detailed enough for me.

I did find it very inspirational; it helped me come up with ideas for my own campaign. The way the six special buildings work is that they have a strategem you can use while you control the terrain feature. I kinda like the concept, and may create Key Building Strategems for my own territories.

Personally, I'm not disappointed I got a copy of it, but I hesitate to endorse it to other folks; if you already have everything else you want, go for it.

But if you have any other purchases planned, they might be more satisfying.

Basically a campaign setting for fighting over and in a city. It has some terrain pieces, cards and stickers to track the progress of conquering a city, some terrain rules and city-based missions.

It never ends well
