Hi all,

Can anyone provide names and sources for the many clans that were present on Medusa before the Horus Heresy? I’d like to make my own fluff from one but not one of the Ten Great Clans in the present day Iron Hands

Cheers mate, but one other question. What exactly happened to the clans? I heard they were destroyed but how was that brought about?

Most were destroyed during the Drop Site Massacre (and the battles immediately after). Others splinted off - such as Clan Morragul becoming the Red Talons.

I don't want to make another thread just for this question and this one is pretty close: I have seen 10 different company symbols for the Iron Hands in a review. I'm pretty sure there were only 3 clans before ? And that several companies belong to each clan ? Do I recall badly or did they retcon this, too ?

There's always been multiple clans, but they used to be entirely self-contained - each with their own veteran & scout units (see below for Clan Raukaan example). This was the same time we didn't have Terminator squads, but some sergeants could wear Terminator armour.
The fluff has changed with the newer novels in that Iron Hands now move between clans.

Going back to the Pre Heresy Clans being destroyed. How was the Clans destroyed in the Drop Site Massacre, I mean I get the Space Marines that came from the Clans but the Leviathan Fortress Monasteries that each Clan has were based on Medusa. What happened to them?

Did they just go off world and do there own thing or were they taken over by other surviving Clans?

I don't think it's ever mentioned what happened to the Leviathan crawlers (it might be mentioned at some point in 'Old Earth', but I've not finished it yet).

Some of the Drop Site Massacre survivors did go back to Medusa, and I assume the crawlers were left with a skeleton crew anyway. I would also assume that the Red Talons & Brazen Claws took theirs at the Second Founding to give them a base on their new home worlds.
