really interested in an imperial guard army, was thinking to bring Coteaz for his melee presence with some acolytes to keep him safe, so a Vanguard detachment makes sense, was wondering if assassins would also fill elites in that detachment? can you just throw assassins in any imperial army elite slot?

You either use the rule (note the FAQ prohibits Cyper shenanigans to those forgetting) below or you use the stratagem to add one assassin to your army.

sorry im mostly a follower of 40k as i live in vegas currently and there isnt a strong presence of 40k, but i do plan on moving eventually and playing for real, what does it mean by command benefits? also would i be able to take coteaz as my warlord in an otherwise imperial guard army?

Detachments grant command points (CP) as 'command benefits'. Vanguard detachments only give 1 CP, so, in the scenario where you take only one assassin in a Vanguard you would get 0 CP (unless you meet the last requirement). There is otherwise a stratagem that you pay 1CP (maybe 2?) to add an assassin to the army without needing to put it in a detachment.

Yes, Coteaz would be fine as he is IMPERIUM. He's not ASTRA MILITARUM, so he should probably be in his own detachment to avoid you missing out on Regimental Doctrines (unless he falls under one of the exceptions, which I don't think he does).

Also Frontline gaming is about to move to Vegas so you will soon have all the 40K presence you could want. There are actually quite a few good players that live there already, you just have to look.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

I just wish they'd put the assassin rules in actual printed form not just in a white dwarf so I could use my models again. That would be sweet. Like maybe any of these psychic awakening books.

There's some leaked info about white dwarf groupings, I'm hoping they're publishing the 8th edition 40k articles in a single source.

Well mark you calendar as if they actually print up all that stuff in a source somewhere to get it all in one place, I'll actually say this. " GW, you done good. "

yeah I would too. I occasionally buy white dwarf issues if it has something of intreast to me, but I'd love a annual (or if GW didn't think annual would work every 2 years even) whtie dwarf compilation. I just hope if they do it it's not just the rules. there are times when the lore articles can be the real gem. the bit in July's WD about the indomatus crusade fleets was really intreasting

Chapter Approved 2019 has all the space used for Index Renegades Knights and Codex Sister of Battle Beta. Don't be shocked if Inquisition and/or Sister of Silence make there way into print there. Otherwise, GW has a lot of pages to fill this year.
