Looking to cook up a flamer based salamanders list. Currently, what I'm looking at is:


Salamanders Successor, Stealthy, Long-Range Marksmen

Battalion:

Captain on Bike, chainsword, storm shield - 100
Primaris Lieutenant, stalker rifle - 70

I've toyed around with putting someone other than the captain on the bike and making him a smash captain with a jump pack.

I've thought about dropping the eliminators to turn the scouts into intercessors or incursors or both, or using the points to turn one of the chaplains into the chaplain dread.

Could also drop the eliminators and turn them into a normal mortis dread which could be a character if I want that detachment to be an iron hands successor.

I've thought about making the second battalion Raven guard or white scars so I can have early forward threats, but I have to say +3 to wound is just so spicy. With the lieutenant that's like a 97% wound rate against literally everything T7 and below. Which is honestly disgusting. Or a 77% wound rate against T8. That's just saying "hey Mr. Knight please take 56 AP -1 saves"

I think as long as self sacrifice still works on a character the list is completely fine. And even if it doesn't, I think I can still manage with that many threats hiding out of LOS.

Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?

With so much Infantry, you should easily be able to get cover without needing the Stealth trait. I'd swap that for Master Artisans (seriously one of the best traits period)

I'd also swap the stalker on your LT for an Auto BR and swap that for the Bellicous rifle (the Assault 4 S5 AP-1, D2 relic in the main marine dex)

If you take Successor Chapter you can't choose any other chapter traits

If you choose "Inheritors of the Primarchs" you are correct. But that isn't what we mean but being a Successor.
I am suggesting taking "Master Artisans" and "Long-range Marksmen" traits and then claim to be a Succesor of Salamanders via the Sallie Supplement and therefore you get the +1 to wound with Flamers & Melta with the Tactical doctrine is active. You would also count as SALAMANDERS for Stratagems, WL traits, etc.

Interestingly you can also have different successor tactics for different detachments as far as I know and you can still be "pure salamanders" and get the flamer bonus as long as each detachment is either true salamanders or a salamanders successor.

Definitely agree that master artisans is spectacular in particular for eliminators/thunderfire cannons. Thinking I may make that detachment stealthy/master artisans while making the flamers long range marksmen/stealthy, as the benefit for master artisans is less of a big deal on big units like 6 full aggressors.
