So I think I have this down, but I'd like some confirmation.

The supplements for the OG Marines (Ultramarines, White Scars, Salamanders, Iron Hands, Imperial Fists, Raven Guard) (maybe Crimson Fists and Black Templars) have a lot of stratagems and relics that specify "ULTRAMARINE" or "SALAMANDER."
I think what this means is that, if I build my own chapter, with its own two traits chosen from that nifty list (I like the sound of a Warded Withdrawal drop pod list), then I essentially cannot use anything from the supplement. This perhaps can be overridden by the Inheritors of the Primarch trait, in spirit if not in letter.

Is this correct?

How successors interact with Parent specific stratagems and other gubbinz is explicitly detailed on page 56 (72 for Ultramarines) in the respective supplement. Specifically the heading "Successor Chapters", and the sub headings "Warlord Traits", "Chapter Relics", "Stratagems", "Psychic Powers" and "Tactical Objectives".

basicly if you are a sucessor of the chapter you replace the chapter name with your chapter for purposes of strats, warlord traits etc.

So if your chapter is the "Pink Princess" chapter, a ultramarines sucessor (with a loong and noble history I assure you) you can sue the strats and warlord traits and just replace ultramarines with it.
relics are a bit of a oddity, you can't take relics without spending a CP on a start, and can only take relics from codex space marines or the special issue wargear

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

You have it a little wrong I'm afraid, read the parts outlined by the poster above for clarity but I will give the gist of it.

The warlord traits, strats, psy powers, special issue wargear, and tac objectives are usable by any successor chapter, not just those using inheritors of the primary. You just stat you are a successor on your army list and replace the relevant keywords with your own when using those rules.

Successors cannot use any of the special characters or units that are specific to their founding chapter and can only choose a chapter relic if they first use the specific stratagem that allows them to do so (there is one in each book, they are named differently).

Hope that helps.
