Blood Angels don't denote Company by trim colour - instead they use different colour blood drops on the right shoulder.
Blood Angels are usually now depicted with red shoulder trims, but traditionally they were shown with black trims. Why they changed was never clear, and to be honest, I suspect GW just got confused and never fixed it.

Specifically;
1st = white skull
2nd = gold
3rd = white
4th = green
5th = black
6th = gold x2
7th = white x2
8th = green x2
9th = black x2
10th = red on black disc
Death Co. = Right: black shoulder pad with red X, Left: solid black pad with white wings/blood drop.
Current trim is simply red like the rest of the armour.
For more information on BA heraldry see p.16 of current codex. Or Google it.

GW proably switched to red trim for expediances sake. it's a loot faster to paint a marine when you don't have to go with differant colours

Different coloured shoulder trims look bad most of the time. Though the armour, shoulder trim and the shoulder centre all being different colours is even worse.

Unless they're metallics - especially Castellax Bronze or Shining Gold, in which case they can look really good if done well.

When you get the chance, invest in the Codex. It's a beautiful book, as well as providing you with answers for lots of questions you will be bound to have!
