Hi all,

I just thought I’d share my attempt at a Space Marine Armoury inspired by the Dawn of War Games, I hope you like it

I used foam board and card stock for the basic design

That's awesome.

I do find it a little weird that there never seemed to be any attempt by GW to capitalise on the success of DoW by actually producing some of the buildings and scenery from the game. I can't, off the top of my head, think of any faction that they didn't just get spot-on.

GW's really REALLY bad about capitalizing on their media ties ins I agree.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Yeah I totally agree, the first Dawn of war Game was fantastic, it really brought to life the whole 40k universe. If they had made the building from the game into scenery everyone would’ve bought it lol

I have some trees to add onto the base and I’m currently attempting to modify the lascannon from my razoback into a turret.

I’ll post more pics as i go along

Maybe it has to do that these buildings are intellectual property of THQ and would only be allowed to be sold until a licencse runs out. Honestly don't know.

@OP
Do you plan to make more of the DoW buildings after that?

Custom40k Homebrew - Alternate activation, huge customisation, support for all models from 3rd to 10th edition

Designer's Note: Hardened Veterans can be represented by any Imperial Guard models, but we've really included them to allow players to practise their skills at making a really unique and individual unit. Because of this we won't be making models to represent many of the options allowed to a Veteran squad - it's up to you to convert the models. (Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition)

that's highly doubtful and if so it's facepalm worthy.

Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines, definitely. There's varying degrees of "yes, that's it" in the games.

Guard is at the top. The IG structures are very much "yes, that's how the guard builds things" All their building are concrete fortified blockhouses and pillboxes
Eldar is up there too, all their buildings look like some kind of teleportation pad to bring a tank out of the webway.
Ork structures look very ork-like, but that's not hard since well, any sort of slumhouse type architecture works well and is already established.

Tau structures are in the middle. They do look techy and Tau-ish, but there also not particularly, well, structure-like. The Necrons have the same problem but worse. They look like sculptures and radio towers.

Necron structures are just puzzling. I guess they do get the aesthetic down, but they also just look like objects that nobody actually put any thought into determining what it was. It's a prism, and it's got green lines. This is not what I feel like they should look like.

Space Marines is probably at the bottom. None of their buildings really look right for a Space Marine building, IMO.

Chaos Space Marines, their unique buildings [ritual pits and the giant temple] are on-target, but the corrupted Space Marine buildings inherited the problem from the Space Marines.

That said, nice armory!

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I dunno the marine buildings look like quickly assmbled pre-fab units. the problem is, Marines aren't exactly noted for building up bases. I'm sure marines have some STCs for deployable ground side facilities, and I'm sure some marine chapters make occasional use of them (imperial fists etc) but I suspect even for factions like the fists it's rare.

The Fortress of Redemption is a Space Marine building originating from the Dark Angels chapter and widely used by other Space Marine chapters where they want to erect permanent fortifications. I would take it as an example of what "Space Marine Architecture" looks like. To be fair, it's a newer model than the Dawn of War series.

And art of space-marine erected permanent structures don't really match the Dawn of War structures.

On the other hand, a lot of it as illustrated is functionally similar to what the Guard is building with concrete, rebar, and steel.

I wouldn't be so sure. An older GTA title got a radio channel removed because the music license expired.

EA is not allowed to sell their own Battle for Middle-Earth titles because of expired contracts.

And we all know what contract nightmare Marvel created in the past..

except in the GTA and BFME cases that's because they where independantly lisencing the product. and marvel, (due to going enar bankrupt in the 90s) had actively SOLD the rights to their movies.

in this case GW is the lisence holder, and if they didn't include a clause in their contract granting them rights and ownership to anything developed by Relic for the 40k setting, that's a pretty facepalm worthy screw up on their part. especially given I'm pretty sure they include it in most of their other contracts (it's why if you pay close attention GW's been able to namedrop stuff from the FFG RPGs)

Love it! Is it to size? Roughly the size of a squad of tacticals? LOL.

But in all seriousness, I think GW didn't make "Space Marine structures" because they don't really exist like in the game. SM's don't really hang around and base build except for their home worlds. They get in fast, smash things up, and bounce out. Who needs to build a base when you have drop pods and assault craft fresh off the battle barge?

Honestly, the only race I can truly see being a sit and entrench themselves style of fighting would be the guard.

Chaos all come from the warp, no need for buildings
Necrons have all the buildings they ever use already with them, in their tombs.
Orks aren't really about to build stuff when there is fighting to get to.
Eldar are the same as SMs in a way, quick strike in, get out fast. Who has time to build?
Tau I don't really know anything about their book lore.

Orks are described as building scrap cities in Sanctus Reach and Vigilus Defiant, and crashing their spacecraft into the planet and turning the scrap metal aboard into shantytowns.
Space Marines are described as entrenching and constructing fortresses and breastworks quite a few times in the lore, especially the Imperial Fists and Iron Warriors.
Tau build cities that look pretty much exactly like how the architecture in Ore's Tash'n map looks.
Necrons and Eldar both have surface ruins, and the former have extensive underground cities.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! So there's no battles anywhere in the 40k universe where one faction has ever attacked a base/camp/outpost/home of another - unless that other is the IG? Including the non-canon battles we all fight week to week on our own tables?

The building is awesome, nice job!

The voice acting in the first DOW was amazingly fun. Love that game.
