I'm curious - when was the last time you genuinely thought, without a hint of sarcasm, that GW had actually done a good job on something?

When did GW last do an undisputed good job of something?

Can't say, as I haven't read it yet - though if we're talking a torpedo from orbit, that's survived orbital re-entry with a functioning warhead, targeting an area not much bigger than a football field we should probably be talking "Spend 4CP: Everything is destroyed"

The point I was aiming for, more generally, is we only ever seem to see Slayer be negative about, well, anything GW does/releases.

Orbital bombardment is something that should have no place in the game outside of specific narrative scenarios. You try to represent something like that in a standard game and you have to either make it pathetically weak and random compared to the fluff, or it literally breaks the game.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

Bombardments were part of his character for how long and they removed it. You trying to deny that doesn't help anything

This, I get they want to sell WD. I just would love these rules all collected, in say an end of the year publication, so we had these things in one place as opposed to scattered around in random magazines. If only GW had an end of the year soft cover book with which it could add these extras, as well as points adjustments , rule tweaks and additional mission and game content. If they had something like that, it's almost like they could cure some of the random bloat by bringing things together in one more manageable source book. I guess we'll just need to keep hoping they will one day release something like that.

I'll add that was heavy sarcasm as I'm pretty sure we won't see any of this stuff in the CA to be out soon, though I really wish we would as all these random rules out in the wind to actually use models I already own is really making me annoyed. I'm not even touching on the fact that they should put all the allied type factional stuff for the IoM in a book, maybe called " Agents of the Imperium " and how nice that would be.

Somewhere in Canada

Pretty sure that we're gonna get an Imperial Agents dex. There's a set of Imperial Agents datacards for Apocalypse; an Agents dex would compile those same units for 40k.

Aren't they publishing some sort of WD annual? I recall Kill Team was listed.

I suspect that the digital WD is meant to be their way of keeping the content available - when I asked about it at UKGE, they said they'd be announcing something about how to keep access to such content shortly afterwards, and the only WD-related announcement that fitted was the (re)launch of WD Digital.

Regardless, he is still an impressive model that is oppressively hard to build (the inquisition would be proud). Plus he's no slouch in combat.

I miss less the orbital bombardment and more the ability to kill his own men, very thematic.

Even if he ends up terrible you can always bludgeon your opponent with the model itself.

Being no slouch in combat only matters if he can reach it. He's got what a 5" movement and can't even be in a transport?

Now if he could drop out of a Stormraven then we'd be talking.

Yeah, I never understood why they were so antsy around orbital bombardment type stratagems, it's always on a very limited roll (4+ usually, 5+ for characters) within a very narrow radius and on top of that, a measly D3 mortal wounds. I get that they're wary of allowing precision mortal wound bombs anywhere on the board, but at 3CP it better be worth the investment. I would say bump it up to a 3+ (regardless of character status) and make it do D6 mortal wounds and make it once per game instead so you can't spam it to try and get rid of gorilla man.

Or maybe.

Maybe.

Wild idea here: Super duper wounds that instantly ignore toughness and armor saves are a drop-dead stupid way to simulate unreliable artillery bombardments and the like.

Instead of making them super wounds with a really slim chance to have devastating effect, make them normal wounds that interact with toughness and save normally, but autohit.

I still can't help but think they're cramming MWs into the game in all these different angles because they know players would just choose to not play with them if they could. EVERY psychic power, even anti-horde based ones, MUST be mega-slim odds to cause a couple mortal wounds instead of just "Causes X Autohits at S4 AP-. You know, because it's a flamer power."

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Why do orbital bombardments NEED to be mortal wounds, anyway? Why not a plain missile attack, with hit rolls and wound rolls and save rolls? Something similar to a one-off Manticore strike.

Mortal Wounds are vastly overrated. The ability to auto-hit, auto-wound and bypass all saves is neat on paper, but the number of MW's that you can actually cause is almost always too low, bar a few exceptions (such as the Voidraven's void bomb).
