Hey

Im currently putting together a further CSM army and currently leaning towards choosing Alpha legion as an army. I have always preferred an infantry focused army and alpha legion pretty much fits the picture with special rules and also somewhat the fluff around them. So here is my starting list of 1500p of Alpha legion. But I would like to have some reflections over my choices and also picking marks/relics/traits (most will probably be Slaanesh imo).

Chaos Battalion Detachment:
Alpha legion

Chaos Lord - Combi-bolter

Chaos Sorcerer - Combi-bolter
Prescience
Warp time

3x Chaos Cultists x10 - autoguns

2x Havocs - 4x heavy bolters

Chaos Vanguard Detachment:
Alpha Legion

Chaos Lord Terminator - Combi-plasma, Power Axe

Chaos Sorcerer Terminator - Combi-bolter, Force Axe
Prescience
Warp time

Chaos Terminator Champion - Combi-plasma, Power-fist
8xChaos Terminators - Combi-plasma, Power-fist (on all models)

Chosen Champion - Combi-bolter
4x Chosen - Combi-bolter

Noise Champion - Sonic blaster
2x Noise marine - Blastmaster
7x Noise marine - Sonic Blaster

Total: 1499p

Backline will consist of everything except all models in terminator armor, which will most likely be placed as reserves in most games, maybe I will deploy them against assualt or close-range shooting armies for extra backup firepower during first and second turn. Otherwise they will be playing the deepstrike role together with one lord and sorcerer deploying at 12" away from enemy models for benefitting of Alpha legion generic rule of -1 shooting hits against them, but I will try to place them so I still benefit from rapid fire on combi-plasma weapons. Against heavy targets using the overcharge together with VotLW, Presience and Endless Cacophony to try to bring down higher wound targets in one turn. I can also use warp time to maybe bring them within a possible charge range during this turn if I see an opportunity for this.

The second sorcerer is picked with Presience and Warp time to alternate with the one in terminator lord together with the using of smite (the terminator one uses 2 of 3 and the sorcerer uses the leftover power is possible, and they can alternate depending on the situation) , presience for havocs/noise marines and warptime for chosen/cultists as the game develops and require movement up the battlefield. Havocs is there for also benefiting from VotLW when its available to bring down vehicles otherwise its for horde clearence, the same for Noise marines.

My own critiques is that I maybe are lacking a longer range and higher strength shooting attacks on my troops to bring down heavy vehicle lists. Also I can be hindered by only be able to use some of the stratagems and physcic powers on a singel squad each turn. I also lack a heavy "absorb" unit/vehicle that will drag attention from other units in the army that are low toughness and pretty weak on there own.

Please bring your own critiques and alternative choices for the army, but remember that I dont require it to be super-competetive.

I think you can get by with a minimum of vehicles in an AL list. A lot of what you have will work but realistically you will stand no chance vs an armour list. You have loads of mod to low strength shots. You could easily afford to change out some for some havocks or oblits.

My recommendations would be.

1) Reaper Chaincannons over heavy bolters on the havocks, you can buy barrells to easily conver them for cheap. And they 8/3 better for 10 points!

2) drop noise marines and one chaos lord (you don't need 1 cp that badly)

3) get a unit of lascannon havocks, if you play with LOS blocking terrain they can easily get of some t1 shots. There's even strats to make them untargetable in psychic awakening if people have ignore LOS weapons

Automatically Appended Next Post:
4) also if you're not adverse to bikes, chaos bikers are a worth upgrade over chosen because for a few points more you get, +1 wound and toughness, 14" movement and always rapid firing bolters

Yeah thats some good recommendations

Im abit worried about the range on chaincannons (I include the movement of 6" and it will still only be 30" maximum a turn.) and on top of that the extra point cost. But ofcourse they are a more powerful choice otherwise.

Noise marines is something that I will probably drop along with the chosen and maybe replace them with bikers instead.

The Chaos lord will probably stay for benefits of the rerolls of 1s for hitting on backline units.

Lascannon havocs is probably something that I will pickup instead of some of my choices.

But thanks overall

No problem man, there's a new batch of stratergems coming in psychic awakening part 2. You can make a unit untargetable unless it's the closest, which helps those chaincannons in range safely.

Plus the sniper chaos lord should be fun to use
