After being around for some time I also wanted to introduce myself a bit.

I'm 33 and live in Berlin, Germany. I'm working as a research associate and have found my way into the hobby only recently, but you could say I orbited around it for quite some time. When I was a teenager I did some plastic modeling, mostly airplanes and tanks from WWII and also liked building dioramas. My favourite models (even though I did not have that big of a collection) were german and commonwealth units from the north africa campaign, as I liked the look and the colour schemes, which then also influenced the choice for my IG regiment.

Later on I did not really find the time any more for my plastic models and at some point got rid of them. Instead I got into pen and paper roleplaying and did a lot of adventures and campaigns with a group of friends in the german system "Das schwarze Auge". Around this time I moved into another part of Berlin near a Games Workshop store and took some first look at the models in their windows. When we thought about getting some minis for or RPG, I entered for the first time and had a nice chat with one of the employees, but in the end we realized, that we won't find what we were looking for there. We played on for some years but unfortunatly we lost our drive and the group split up two years ago, mostly because our lifes changes - families happened, new jobs etc. Quite luckily we met some new friends in our neighbourhood with the same problem and so I'm back into RPG for some months now and have a lot of fun.

Yet the interest in plastic modelling in General and the WH40k models in particular never really faded, especially for the Imperial guard whose look really reminds me of the africa campaign models I liked so much back in my modelling days. So at some point - I reached a new career step and could afford to spend some money on a relaxing hobby - I decided to go for it and started with the big IG box, a bunch of sand colors and some MaxMini desert dweller heads. And it was immediatly a lot of fun. I really like the painting part (my results may not be award worthy, but I find it really relaxing after a working day, which is what counts for me) and also combining different conversion parts to really build "my guys". From my RPG days I also like to think up some stories for parts of the regiment and especially the characters.

Initially I intended to build a pure Tallarn look on all of them, but working on the background I got the idea of including some african style tribal elements. What was first intended as only some sprinkles, like one infantry squad and a character, has become a great source of fun, as I scrap together tribesman were I can and have a lot of fun with the diversity they provide. Painting 60 Guardsmen in the same uniform can be quite boring, but painting them in 6 different tribal dresses is really enjoyable.
My motor pool also starts to look quite ragtag, as my current wishlist contains mostly one each of a lot of vehicles. As one can imagine from this description (and some of my posts), the result will likely be far from competetive. Yet I want to play with my minis at some point and really hope to find some likeminded people in my area who are more in for a nice gaming night, beer and pretzels, chatting about our dudes and exchanging modeling and painting ideas/tips.

Whats more to say? My account name is more a nod to my earliest days in a RPG forum I wrote alot in. Back then my first character was an alchemist with pyromanic tendencies. As I tried to choose an account name, the first few I tried were all already taken, so I just choose Pyroalchi as in pyromanic alchimist. Not very creative, but I stick with it.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

IceAngel wrote:I must say Knightley, I am very envious of your squiggle ability. I mean, if squiggles were a tactical squad, you'd be the sergeant. If squiggles were an HQ, you'd be the special character. If squiggles were a way of life, you'd be Doctor Phil...
