The title says it all. Im looking for ways to make models appear more feminine to try making an all female CSM warband. Originally I had planned to use the head pieces of Escher gang Necromunda models, but I was informed they would be far too small.
So anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah GW's design language for female miniatures focuses on scaling and slimming down heads/arms/hands in particular, so I think you have two options:
1) Source some 3rd party female heads. There are loads out there, but I'm not much of a buyer of 3rd party minis so I can't really recommend much other than Victoria Miniatures, which i know has quite a wealth of female 28mm minis.
Some more 'standard' scale 28mm heads on a standard CSM torso would work, and would be a low-effort way of doing it.
2) Get a lot more involved with your conversions. Back to the whole 'GW design language' thing; making a space marine that truly reads as 'female' by GW's convention would require slimming down a lot of areas, in particular the waist limbs, then using a GW female head piece.
This second option is a big sculpting job, really. Probably not feasible for a squad unless it was a real passion project.

I’d say the mostly obvious solution would be to start with Sisters of Battle.
Remove fleurs- de-lis, replace with Chaos icons and spikes. Getting chaosified weapons should be fairly easy, and would make a substantial difference.
From there? Druchari wytches of the feminine persuasion could make decent cultists, painted in the same colour scheme. Plus side, spikes included so all you need to add is Chaos icons.
Sticking to Slaaneshi Daemons will amp the femininity of your forces. I would *personally* avoid “girly” paint schemes because it would seem more sexist to paint your women in “girly” colours than to avoid painting them girly colours... in the sexist context of a colour being masculine or feminine.
(No harm intended to anyone. Peace be with you.)
Following that advice... they’ll look like fallen Sisters but that’s what women Chaos marines are going to look like, pretty much no matter what you do.

Female Sigmarines from AoS. There are multiples in effectively every unit type.
Helmet, arm and shoulder swap, plus or minus a power armor pack and you've got yourself ladymarines. Bonus points as there are compatible female heads in the kits.

Step 1: Ensure your skin is nice and thick. You're going to need it for making female astartes, because a lot of people are going to hate the idea (disclaimer- I don't care what you do with your toys, they're your property and for all I care you can make goat-man space marines with bolter boners).
Step 2- Sequitors. Those are your best bet. Probably could use most of the torso.

My opinion cuz? Don't do it, at least not in this way. Like if you have a cool idea imo you should just freestyle it, make your own archetype of how you think would be interesting, rather than trying to fit them into the male shape of chaos space marines.
I think if you try and model for a chaos space marine, you're gonna hit the conundrum of that CSM were designed with dudes in mind, which was a mistake imo but it's hard to do anything about it now. I think you'd have far more success if you just tried to make a chaos warband with tanky women in it, as not only are you not risking janky-mismatching modeling as much, but you don't have to endlessly explain your takes on preexisting fluff.
If it's playing you're worried about, I'd personally have no problems you using non CSM models and saying they're CSM. A guy at my club plays an army with squig models all using grot rules, but everyone gets around it because he's made his own army idea and is just using whatever rules reflect his modeling best. I think that's the sort of thing to do here, just make your girls to your own idea, don't worry about pegging them into already present designs and ideas.

Look into doing conversions with the Raging Heroes Sisters models? They seem a bit more adaptable to conversions. As someone else has already said, chaos stars and spikes and some spiky bolters/autocannons as well as the standard flamer/melta/plasma and chainsword are all you really need. Chain axes might be a good bet as well but are a little harder to source.

Think about fluff.
If you want to represent MEqs recently turned traitor, then Sisters of Battle would be the easiest way to go. They've defaced their imperial iconography, discarded some weapons and equipment and adopted other stuff (to make them WYSIWYG as counts-as Chaos Marines), but are clearly still in their old armour.
If on the other hand you want to represent female Chaos Marines who've been traitor since Heresy days or similar and so been through thousands of years of mutation, you can go as crazy as you like with customised/mutated armour.
The really easy option would be Sisters of Battle heads (I presume the kits come with plenty of spares) on standard Chaos Marine bods, if that's 'female' enough looking for you.

One of the Drukhari vehicles has nice little spikes that make good "forehead horns" for your gals, too.
I won't tell you "don't make female marines". They're your toys, my dude. Make whatever you want. I want you to spend your money and be happy with what you get and make what you think is fun and cool. It doesn't have to meet my expectations of lore.
It might help- the female Stormcast bodies work well with Astartes arms and you can get a backpack on them. You're just gonna need to get creative with a file and buff down some hammers or lightning bolts.
Also, Shapeways is a good spot to get iconography and stuff for shoulderpads, kneepads, etc. and even pick up some kickass weapons. (Pop Goes the Monkey is great).
Reptilian Overlords has some female heads that fit on Astartes bodies.
Alternatively, you can probable get Sisters of Silence by the bushel in some places. They could be easily converted.
Now, if you purchased SIsters of Battle and chaos'd the hell out of them, and ran them as CSM... well, that would be awesome and I'd love to fight alongside/against that any day of the week. That sounds like a fun project.

Il probably end up doing that, but I'll have to wait for everyone to stop buying them first.

What specific part? Sisters of Silence or Sisters of Battle?
Also... there's some companies that make chicks in power armor. Wargame Exclusive makes some pervish ones, and non-pervish ones- and their "Totally Not Sisters of Battle" are pretty awesome looking (I use their helmets on Scions).
Another company makes nothing but women in power armor and I think their "Totally Not Sisters of Battle" look WAAAAAAY better. "Baddest Girls in the Galaxy" sounds like the name of one of their lines.
Someone help me out here- there's a whole line of them, I wanna say "War Zone" or something but I am not sure. Some are cheesecake but others are solid.

If you're looking at putting female heads on space marine bodies, Forgeworld do female Stormcast heads, which I assume would be pretty similar size-wise? Also I found these http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/p/8774376/sma301-heroic-scale-female-heads.html which says it's "designed specifically for converting heroic scale male figures, such as heavily armoured space knights or troopers in fatigues and body armour" but I've never bought from there so idk what they're like.

Statuesque minis makes good quality female heads that fit marine bodies.
As for your base - it depends on what you're going for. Like other people said female stormcast would make nice looking chaos marines, so would an SOB conversion.
A more intricate conversion would be as someone mentioned to cut up a marine and make them slightly taller so you can fit a narrower wait section. That would probably work best with regular marines or primaris. It seems like per model it would be a lot more work.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy. |
