Ok,
this was an interesting game. Things you didn't expect to happen happened and theory gaming didn't deliver the way you would have wanted. Raven guard player got the first turn and we ended up playing decapitating strike from
CA18.
RG deployed first and
DG didn't seize.
RG player did some last minute tweaks to his list, making the
CM his warlord and just giving the masters of ambush for the chaplain as an additional
WT, to avoid too easy slay the warlord. In decapitating strike you discard tactical objectives when your characters die. We both had 4 characters.
FYI: Everything else is
wysiwyg except redemptors are invictor warsuits, they are hell to build, too many moving mechanisms...
Some pictures from the deployment:
Turn 1:
RG goes first and uses masters of ambush to bring aggressors and the chaplain within 9" of
DG deployment zone.
RG player drew "kill transport/flyer objective" and tries to score it by killing the rhino. Invictor warsuits close on daemon prince and bloat-drones.
In the shooting phase 111 bolter shots. 74 hits, 29 wounds from the aggressors wither the rhino to 3 wounds remaining, but stays in the game. Two invictor warsuits shoot with everything at one of the bloat-drones (one of the incendium cannon is out of range so it targets
PBC). Bloat-drone and
PBC get 2 wounds each. Eliminators try to kill the daemon prince, but don't get a single wound through. T7 2+/5++/5+++ is nasty.
End of movement from
RG.
Invictors rush into combat with
PBC and the bloat-drone, invictors S14 hits take 9 wounds off from the bloat-drone, leaving it to 1 wound remaining.
PBC drops down to 7 wounds.
Warsuits pull their T1 charges.
RG player scores 1
VP for securing an objective.
DG aligns bloat-drones and pulls the
PBC off the combat, badly damaged chaos rhino advances towards the enemy. Daemon prince casts miasma of pestilence on him. Plague marines super-charge plasma and kill one aggressor. Daemon prince charges with the bloat-drone into invictor warsuit and drops it to 2 wounds. It's disgustingly resilient which saves the 1 wound bloat-drone from death from the blows off invictor warsuit.
DG scores 3
VP for objectives. No first strike for either of players.
Turn 2:
RG swaps into tactical doctrine (it's +1 to hit and wound against characters). Aggressors stay foot to double shoot again. Helblasters drop down for the kill. Librarian casts shadowstep to move the chapter master next to helblasters to give full rerolls to hit.
In the shooting phase; 5 aggressors take 98 shots, 73 hits, 27 wounds into plague marine squad who are totally destroyed. Eliminators try to wither the daemon prince once again, only the Korvadari bolt's mortal wound (mortis round) gets through.
Helblasters taking aim.. and always measure.
Helblasters super-charge at the plagueburst crawler, 11 hits, 4 wounds, 6x disgustingly resilient saves result
PBC dropping down to 3 wounds remaining.
In the fight phase invictor warsuit tries to kill the daemon prince, but rolling double ones on the wound roll. Aggressors charge the chaos rhino and destroys it,
DG player auto-explodes the chaos rhino, which results in 4 dead plague marines from the emegerancy disembarkation.
Daemon prince swings back it's dual talons at the invictor warsuit, it's 2 wounds remaining on the warsuit.
It's
DG time to punish. Bloat-drones close on helblasters, contents of the exploded chaos rhino close on the aggressors. Blightlord terminators and the sorcerer drop down in the enemy deployment 9" away from the phobos librarian. Sorcerer casts putrescent vitality on the terminators while daemon prince renews his miasma of pestilence.
Suprise Motherf****r! from the Blightlords.
Bloat-drones and super-charged plasma shots from the plague marines drop the helblasters into 1man unit and morale takes care of the him.
PBC mortars one eliminator to death and kills the 2w invictor warsuit.
Foul blightspawn get 5 auto-hits from the S9 spray gun and with -3AP flat 3 damage kills the whole aggressor squad. Terminators shoot some intercessors getting 5 wounds through.
End of
DG shooting.
In the charge phase terminators charge the librarian and make it with a command reroll, only the
DG player realises what a mistake he made for not multi-charging the eliminators and the lieutenant as well.
Daemon prince kills the last invictor warsuit. Flail of corruption ends the days of the phobos librarian.
DG player is at 8 points total scoring for several objectives like kill units, hold exactly 3 objectives, kill something with plague weapon etc.
Turn 3:
RG player drops the plasma inceptors within range of daemon prince, brings the chapter master and intercessors within charge range of the terminators. Eliminators have fled the combat so no shooting from them, inceptors supercharge and two die in the process while getting 4 wounds off the daemon prince.
Eliminators and the lieutenant dispatch from the overrun building.
After
RG charges..
Inceptor sergeant charges the daemon prince only to get slain by the Nurgle prince. Chapter master and the intercessors try to counter the deepstruck threat from the blightlords, but they get slain from the flail of corruption's swings. 4d3 attacks which spill over is nasty weapon.
At this point the
DG player has killed roughly 1000 points of
RG and only lost 11 plague marines and a chaos rhino.
DG has a clear point lead and by killing the warlord
RG player had to discard all of his objectives (rolled 6).
We call it a hand shake.
Summary:
Death guard a still a tough nut to crack.
RG list lacked anti-armour, was too optimistic with the aggressive first turn. Eliminators vs. Nurgle daemon prince with the suppurating plate aren't the best target. Aggressors have insane number of shots, but dunno if better to hold them for tactical doctrine.
What do you think, what was the downfall?
