Hello all. My son and I got a game in over the Thanksgiving break. The Halflings are back and this time as Wood Elves! The thing I love the most about a “count as army”, is that I can use them as multiple armies. My son is playing his usual Lizardmen list. Where I bounce all over the place with my armies, he is sticking to one for now. Today is a 3000pt throwdown.

Lists

Lizardmen
Stegadon
Scarvet on foot
3 Salamanders
Cohort
Skinks
27 Templeguard w/Slann (Lore Master High Magic) & Chakax
30 Saurus
10 Sarus Cav
Trogladon
Bastiladon
Chameleon Skinks

Halflings (Wood Elves)
Glade Lord, Spell Weaver, BSB, Spell Singer

Spells

28 Eternal Guard w/full command, two units of 10 Glade Guard w/musician Trueflight Arrows

Two units of 5, shamefully unpainted, Glade Riders w/musician & Trueflight Arows

Two units of 6 Treekin

Two Treemen, (yes that is a Skylander I stole from the kids)

Two units of 5 Way Watchers, 1 Great eagle

Set Up after Vanguard

Wood Elves turn 1
Not much going on yet, some wounds here and there on Salamanders.

Lizardmen turn 1

Wood Elves turn 2
The Spell Weaver rocks the Saurus with Dwellers Bellow. The Glade Guard pick off some more. Way Watchers pick off some Saurus Cav. Both units of Glade Riders charge Salamanders on the right and left flanks. Both win combat and chase the Salamanders off the board. Treekin on the left flank charge the Skink Cohort, the Treeman fails to join the combat. The Treekin whiff and are beaten and run down by the Cohort. The Way Watchers on the left panic seeing the Treekin run down.

Lizardmen turn 2
Cohort charge the Eternal Guard, who flee and panic the Glade Lord. Saurus charge the Way Watchers on the left, who flee. The Slann takes out half the Eternal Guard with Tempest. The Slann also destroys the Glade Lord’s magic armour. Chameleon Skinks take a wound off the Spell Weaver hanging out on the rocks in the center.

Wood Elves turn 3
Treekin charge the Saurus Cav.

The Eternal Guard rally, but the Glade Lord fails twice! The Way Watchers on the left fail to rally, they are out of frame, but still on the table. The Treeman in the center charges what’s left of the Saurus. He beats them and runs them down. The Treekin and the Saurus Cav are still duking it out.

Lizardmen turn 3
The Bastiladon vaporizes the Way Watchers on the right, everyone passes their panic check. Skinks on the left take out some Glade Riders, but they pass their panic test. Still no clear victor between the Treekin and Saurus cav.

Wood Elves turn 4
The fleeing Way Watchers on the left rally, but are still out of frame. Dwellers Bellow take out most of the Skinks and a Kroxigor from the Cohort. The Glade Guard take out some more leaving a single wounded Kroxigor. The Glade Riders Still roming around the left take out one Chameleon Skink panic the remaining one.

Lizardmen turn 4
The Temple Guard charge the Treeman. The Bastiladon comes in to assist the Saurus Cav. The Slann Miscasts trying to put Hand of Glory in the Saurus Cav. He rolled a Dimensional Cascade that killed half the Temple Guard, did a wound to the Treeman, and sucked the Slann into the void. Ouch! The Treeman kills a few more Temple Guard, but Chakax finishes him off and they reform what is left of the unit. The Trogladon spits and kills a Glade Rider causing them to panic. The lone Kroxigor charges the Glade Guard but the elves manage to stab him in the eye before he can swing.

Wood Elves turn 5
The Glade Guard pick off some Temple Guard. The Treekin have had enough and are run down by the Sarus Cav. Way Watchers score a wound on the Stegadon.

Lizardmen turn 5
The Bastiladon destroys a unit of Glade Guard and surprisingly the other unit holds against the Saurus.
[br]

Wood Elves turn 6
Dwellers Bellow and Strangle Root finish off the Temple Guard & Chekax. Combined fire form the Glade Riders and Way Watchers finish panic the Skinks. The Glade Lord and Eternal Guard charge the Bastiladon.

Lizardmen turn 6
The Scarvet and Stegadon charge and finish off the Glade Riders. The Trogledon charges the Treeman, they both whiff. The Glade Guard finish off the Saurus Cav. The Bastiladon holds on with one wound.

I was honestly surprised that the Wood Elves won this one, but the loss of the Slann, Temple Guard, and Chakax was pretty heavy. This game came down more to luck more than anything else. I cast Dwellers several times and didn’t miscast. Then on a simple spell the Slann miscast and gets sucked into the void. I also keep telling my son he needs to get the Stegadon into combat and not use him as a mobile bolt thrower, but what do I know We did have fun with this one and some big laughs at the crazy magic phases. My son had a big smile on his face when my Glade Lord failed to rally on a Ld 10.

Looks like fun.
I like the big 3000 point battles

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I prefer larger battles also, though I do not increase unit sizes in account of this, just add more units and characters.
You cannot get all the toys in a 2000pt list, this Lizardmen army your son plays is very similar to what I want to field in casual games, the list could be 'better' at the expense of fun. One of every type of unit is more interesting.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

I like bigger games also. Only real issue is that my son wants to play 3000 and my friends want to play 2500, so I just have to be prepared with two lists
