just some thoughts on something I have seen recently

scenario
(spearhead+vanguard detachment)
captain(chaptermaster upgrade + vox ), lieutenant, librarian
25 hellblasters (2 squads of 10, 1 squad of 5, the 10 are combat squaded)
3x Invictus warsuits
5 impulsors with 4++

impulsors move 14, hellblasters + command dismount 3, then move 6, and are now 1ish inch from enemy deployment zone, unleash 50 plasma shots, over charged, with full lunatic rerolls

the impulsor is so durable, they dont even care if they go first or second, and the warsuits present a such a credible threat that can not be ignored, this presents some safety to the impulsors

has anyone run into this type

I have even seen mix of hellblasters + veteran intercessors with sgt with thunderhammer and nearby ancient with relic banner for +1 attack (the vet intercessors dont dismount after the move, but wait till next turn and dismount + move + charge )

with the current meta mostly marine or other elite type armies, this looks extremly viable
I can only see massive infantry horde type armies presenting a threat to this, bug swarm or ork horde, something that does not give two gaks about 50 overcharged plasma shots

thoughts?
comments?

You disembark from a transport before it moving, so I think someone has played some rules wrong here

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

the impulsor has a special rule

disembark AFTER the model moves
you get your standard 3" disembark, then you get your normal 6" move (this was also clarified in the SM codex FAQ )

I run it, bit of a “Go first or burn trying scenario” and most Superheavy lists have less drops so they wind up getting the +1 to go first and the Invictus tend to get destroyed pretty easily.
New Terrain rules might be a saving grace but I haven’t played since they dropped.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

aye, I have run this myself

but local game group has mostly been useing the 2018 CA missions were whom ever sets up first goes first unless the other can steal the initiative on a 6

I have found that this is a "smart players" army, you can not just rush up and start blasting everything, target priority is extremly important, but can be extremly brutal list to play if played smartly

It reminds me of 3rd edition Rhino Rush.

Terrain and missions certainly are significant factors.

With Marines in mind, I would look into Intercessors with Bolt Rifles. They have 2 damage without risk of you losing a model to over heating. Less points, can utilize a battalion for more CP and can get a Chaplain to give +1 to wound rolls. With Imperial Fists, they ignore cover and can do 3 damage to vehicles.

I have not seen this tank utilized in my local area, but I see potential.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

impulsor rush

Automatically Appended Next Post:
if you are still undecided about getting the impulsors

just break out your old rhinos, and "counts as" for a couple of games,

then your wallet will start weeping tears of blood

that's what friend o mine and I did for a few games, befor deciding on if should invest the money and time /effort into the model

I got 6, its well worth it, although most games I will use only 4 or 5,

Yeah, this is a very "Shock and Aw" list for sure. The biggest downside, however is the lack of CPs.
But if you make them UM successors with Master Artisans, that is less of an issue.
But you are definitely playing to table, not to score, since you have 0 Troops so no ObSec.

I do like the 1-2 punch of Helblasters and Invictors though. Even if you face an infantry Horde, the Invictors should be able to thin them to a manageable size.

I wouldn't call them worse. The stubbers are AP -1. They are much less durable.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

How often you really use that obsec to score though? I find generally most of the time objective is captured from enemy by tadaa killing the unit and being only ones around.

Rarely I see two units around objective.

I find I have the best results with hellblasters, plus a character to take the UM relic (I think it may be special wargear) for all rerolls against 1 unit. I think this is the ideal team to go in an impulsor

I have yet to try it but I was thinking of stuffing a chief apothecary in there with them if they manage to survive one turn of shooting

It could be brutal. The only problem with spamming one kind of firepower is that you are vulnerable if you run into something that hard-counters you.

Any armies that can stack negative to-Hit modifiers (e.g. Alaitoc) will make your Hellblasters pop faster. Wave Serpents will turn all those plasma guns in 1D attacks. Knights with T8 and an invulnerable save will not suffer too badly either. They might lose 1 knight if you get T1 and then those expensive Hellblasters will get shredded by Avenger Gatling Cannons and then tap-danced to death.

granted hellblasters have an advantage over a lot of heavy weapons units in that in a pinch they can make a halfway decent assault unit.
