Just reading the codex and I've been using the hero of chapter strat before the battle for my CF and giving the second warlord trait to my smash captain. I give him the trait where you get d3 CP back before the battle, in the entry it says if you have a CF warlord they CAN use the CF warlord traits it doesn't say MUST so I'm assuming it's ok??

No, you cannot. Codex Supplement: Imperial Fists, Page 56, Warlord Traits, First Sentence.

When it says "can" it means you can take a CF Trait, or a generic one. It doesn't mean you can take traits from other Chapters.

Actually, the way the Sentinel of Terra Stratagem is written, you MUST use the Imperial Fists Warlord Traits for the second trait. The Imperial Fists is NOT bolded, therefore it is not replaced by Crimson Fists.
