I've been having a totally opposite experience so far. I've got about 13 hours of play without one single crash of any kind. The game is running for max specs for me, with no current issues.

You may not be using the right weapons, but I commonly run PPC's and when you Override Overload, you'll cook yourself to a cinder. I've lost a lot of stuff (Ammo, Heat Sinks, Weapons) this way.

I haven't encountered the issue you've mentioned about the AI stopping their assault due to shutdowns, in fact I tend to get pummeled by them more. Maybe it's just been situational for you?

The AI does need a lot of help, but traditionally I hate bribing along non-human friends in game, so when I'm running single player, I only bring myself and my mech, never any others.

Pilot skills definitely matter, I managed to get a couple of good hires early on and they've made a noticeable difference (when I have brought along a lance) compared to the greener cheaper pilots.

It would have been awesome if there was a "Repair All" button that would replace lost components from your inventory AND repair the mech. The amount of times I forgot to repair a mech after replacing a component is embarrassing

Welcome to mechwarrior, this has been a key part of the game since the 90s. I like it, it gives me the RPG experience that makes me feel like I am actually there, working on the machines, piloting them and so on.

I'd give the game a strong 7/10 and I've been recomending it to my friends, updates and fixes will probably be dropping in the near future for some of the issues you've mentioned so I'd say just sit tight a bit.

So don't press the "repair all" button. It's not an auto-win button, it's a simple QoL improvement with no downside I can think of, and improves accessibility.

It seems like an issue I'd have all the time. Even in TW games I hit the End Turn button and immediately remember the myriad things I forgot to do. It's part of the reason I don't Ironman any Paradox games--the ability to load an earlier save and go and take care of what I forgot borders on mandatory for me. World of Tanks used to--IIRC it doesn't any more--let you go into battle without any ammo, which was a problem if you just fitted a new gun and wanted to try it out. Fortunately there's a checkbox that lets you auto-restock after each battle, so it was a problem I only had a few times, but a problem it was still, and even for veteran players. Even now, sometimes I forget to check ammo resupply and auto-resupply consumables when I buy a new tank.

It's sort of a MW thing. The games aren't really for casuals. I'd put it in the category of Dark Souls more than I would something like COD. Putting in work-around buttons cheapens the whole experience IMO.

What?

MW is a simple pilot sim made from a wargame, with some very forgiving targeting rules and a fairly lore-breaking power fantasy that allows the player to just solo and trash waves of mechs and vehicles that should utterly wreck you.

Its never been 'non-casual' or 'hardcore.' You're expected to take on multiple assault lances with a single heavy mech in every single iteration, and that's just barely mathematically possible (and still statistically unlikely) in the game its based on

I see you haven't played 5 yet.

You described it as a 'MW thing' not a MW 5 specific thing.
And from what I've seen of it, its not any different (except a worse UI and camera shake).

This video has a single Javelin stomping multiple scorpions and helos simultaneously, when their damage and armor is several orders of magnitude higher than the puny light mech. The players damage output and armor is obviously much higher and the enemy mobs obviously dulled for the play experience.

That's one of the tutorial missions....

I've been playing all weekend and I can tell you first hand, 1 V Xing anything is a really, really bad idea in this game. It's hard, and I've had more than a few close calls, and several ejections. There seems to be a concerted effort to trash the game, probably because of all the hate for Epic and exclusivity deals. All I would say is make up your own mind about the game by trying it out. Epic allows for refunds as long as you don't play more than three hours. More than enough time to decide if you'll like it or not.

Darn that interface and sight shake on that video look to be REALLY annoying. I mean I get that they are trying to make the mech feel big and stompy, but you'd think any computerized machine would counter that shake for a smooth interface so that you can see what your'e doing - very annoying.

There is a specific reason for the shake that is related to the mission. A Jammer feths up your hud, as far as I can tell its only for that one specific mission too.

EDIT*

New Patch is up. Spawns are a lot better now.
