Hi everyone,

Recently relapsed Warhammer type.

I played for awhile as a teenager in the 90s, starting with the Bretonnian / Lizardmen WFB boxset (I think that was 5th edition?). Loved both those armies, got a bunch of dark elves from a family friend, and also *tried* to expand into collecting Skaven, but… those were the days of everything but the most basic pair of units in a given army being pewter, and far, far, far too expensive for my allowance. I also painted up a Vampire Lord for some reason.

First foray into the 40k setting was when Gorkamorka came out. That game was RIDICULOUSLY fun and I'd love to see it return some day. Or at least just something like a version or expansion of Kill Team that incorporates bikes and other small vehicles, so as to replicate it.

I witnessed the birth of the Sisters of Battle, the Necrons, the Dark Eldar, Battlefleet Gothic, and the second version of Epic! But I had grew up and discovered music and parties and sex and drugs and being an insufferably moody goth kid and all that before the T'au came along.

Got back into things earlier this year, after a nasty cold left me in bed reading Horus Heresy lore on wikis for a week.

I've collected a solid 2000 points of AdMech (mostly Skitarii stuff - no Kataphrons or Electro-Priests), several kill teams (so as to try out different factions and scratch various itches), a Delaque gang for Necromunda (want some Eschers next), and am now currently working on a Neapolitan all-three-flavours Drukhari army (I've fallen absolutely in love with the evil spikey bastards), and picked up the new Adepta Sororitas box, planning to build them up as they come out too.

My AdMechs are Mars (though I imagine they're the garrison from Phobos), doing the Drukhari as Cursed Blade, Poisoned Tongue and Prophets of Flesh, and the Sororitas as Ebon Chalice.

Someday I'd like to also build an army of Deathskull Orks, and the obligatory Space Marine army everyone eventually gets (I'm thinking Blood Angels or White Scars… I'm also AWFULLY fond of Salamanders, but it would take LOTS of converting and AoS dark elf kits and seraphon kits to give them their proper aesthetic). But doing two armies at once is already a lot of work as is.

If I've ever got the time and money to take on AoS, I'd love to give Skaven another attempt. Though the Nighthaunt, Daughters of Khaine, Idoneth Deepkin, Kharadron Overlords and Beastclaw Raiders are all really, really cool.

I'm afraid the mortal realms just don't appeal to me as much as the Old World did, though. It feels like it lacks a sense of grounding or relatability. But it's helped for me to start thinking of it as more of a Narnia / Spirited Away / Planescape / Nutcracker / Ni No Kuni / fairytale kind of fantasy rather than a Tolkien / Elder Scrolls / Forgotten Realms sort of versimilitude fantasy.

Anyway, that's me. Ciao!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Hello and welcome. I did read your introduction, I also started at 90s, with gorkamorka, fantasy battles and 40k. That was alot of fun. By the way, it was 3rd edition of fantasy battles with bretonnians and lizardmen. And if youre intrested, GW released a game called speed freeks (which is kind of like gorkamorka). Good luck with the hobby!

I try to read them even if i don't often say anything!

i missed out on that fantasy box set back then which is too bad because lizardmen and knights would have been completely my thing.

I hope that your projects are going well!

realism is a lie

Welcome!

Yeah, I painted the lizard man part of that box for a friend. Then proceeded to give him a good thrashing with my undead army…

Inexperience is not a permanent condition. Stupidity is!
