Chapter Approved and Munitorum Field Manual came out last week and today I got a chance to look through Chapter Approved and I found it over all rather dull. In it the only parts that I cared about were the matched play parts and the official rules for terrain and fortifications. This made me think of something I want to ask the community:

If the two books were sold separately which of them would you buy (presumably each book would be worth half of the price of the set)?

Both, one or the other, or neither?

Personally I would like all the matched play stuff in one book with the points and all the open play and narrative in another and GW to allow people to pick which they would rather have.

I don't really care for a list of points that is invalid one year later. All the other content of CA has more use and can be taken as Inspiration even for later editions, just like old WDs. So, if I had the choice I'd get it without the field manual as that content will be in Battlescribe anyway and I'll never take a look at the book again.

True. Personally I would like the points list to be a free pdf available on the community site or something.

In third edition CA had new rules for things like assaults, conversion ideas, special campaign missions, and even new units or army lists like the Space Wolves 13th Company. Now CA is list of error-ridden points change with a price tag. :/

Well price would not be half the current, more like 15e for 1 book. Or gw being gw 20e

And you would lose the terrain rules were you to buy the point one.

Why isn't the whole thing (for 1/2 price an option? That's what I want.

Personally I think point updates should be free online and GW could update them on a more regular basis.

Points updates should be free. There are so many mistakes in the current Field Manual I'm actually quite surprised GW hasn't corrected them yet and it shows exactly why these kinds of things should be freely available online.

CA itself is a weird one for me. The actual useable content is quite small, IMO. The non-Matched Play stuff is pretty hit and miss in quality and I find a lot of it to be quite poorly thought through, reading more like a half-finished, half-realised idea for an article rather than a genuinely useful gaming guide. The new missions are usually worth it, and it's nice to have all the terrain rules in one place, as bad as they are. So I'd probably have to say slightly cheaper for CA and free online points updates for me.

Neither, though if CA had some articles that interested me (such as the previous build-your-own-land-raiders and make-your-own-characters), I might consider it.

I would never buy a book just for points value. GWs point guesses change the moment a new book drops, and things like BattleScribe exist.

It never ends well

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.

Please report to your nearest GW store for attitude readjustment. Take your wallet.

Yes. And it is really not about the price either, it would just be so much convenient for everybody. They should have their own armybuilder app, and update points there as needed.

I don't mind paying for the other content in the CA; it is not very expensive and it has useful stuff in it. The new missions for example are great.

The points values should 100% be updated for free via PDF. It's never been logical to paywall stuff like this - it's not content, it's corrections/fixed.

These should be provided "under warranty" as it were.

Chapter Approved should have more White Dwarf articles from the past year and updated scenarios.

Guess which one gives more cash to gw? The one that gives most is the most logical option
