The Wastes of Krieg

So here is the new version of my long running Tempestus Drop Troops army. With the point drops across the board for many of my units and the price hike on the Vulture. After taking all the changes into the point values, I found I had enough points to fill out my Valkyrie squadron to its full strength. If anyone has any counter suggestions I'm always looking for ideas!

My only thought looking at this is that you have a lot of vox casters -- but when I play scions, they tend to be located in one or two big nexus firefights at a time, on the board, so you might could get similar effect with half as many such.
Do you usually run the bullys in the vend and a valk, or are they your "start on the ground insurance" agsint bootsing?

I'll level with you, I've never actually gotten to field this army. I have about 2/3's of it but I'm waiting on the rest. But I do plan on dropping the Bullgryn from the Valks as soon as I can. I would likely have some officers of the fleet on the ground to start, and the vendetta would follow up with the crusaders and Psykers to reinforce the melee line. (Unfortunately, Vendettas have a caveat that says they can't transport Ogryn)

Just remember that the stuff in flyers won't prevent you from sudden death if the stuff not in flyers dies -- and there are a LOT of marine snipers out there or marines who can start in your face and then move, shoot, and charge. My most similar list had 15 crusaders and 3 ogryn bodygaurds ... which pretty well blocked any worry about being bootsed by anything I ran into in the tournament scene. I don't doubt some factions could maybe still do it.
With only a few officers (and fleet officers are made of paper) and erhaps one or two other untis on the ground, I would be sweating bullets till I at least got the away team down.

I thought I was allowed to have no boots on the ground for the first round?

In a lot of my games, I end up maneuvering for a round so that I can drop elysians, valkyries full of scions, and scions from deepstrike in one concentrated ball of hate at one spot (hopefully trading shots with only 1/2 to 1/3 the enemy army) and then pick the survivors (that aren't locked in unhappy melee) back up to repeat. While I know taking guns offline for even a round is a huge problem, it essentially can force some enemies to take all their guns offline as well, if they can't get range/LOS onto the mobile stuff and the crusaders got their 2++ shield up. Except after a couple turns, that invulnerable wall may be getting smited, meleed, and shot, all three, it may be unable to stop chargers against the backline tanks and officer(s). The combo wall has held agaisnt things like terminator squads that don't expect to get their lunch eaten by the gaurd in combat, ever.

So that moemnet where you wind up the valkyries to hover over the center terrain and drop it all again, you are vulnerable, basically, to bootsing on turns 2, 4, and to a lesser extent on 3 and 5. Lowering my crusaders to 10 just leaves me a bit nervous on this issue, I guess, even with the MP and ogrynBG line behind them. I think your elite character crusader is probably your form of my 3 bodygaurds .. he can't be shot till the rest are all down, so he probably isn't going to die to anyone anytime soon. (except massive psyker stuff like the jaws of the wolf, or perhaps custodes firing their massive anti-character strategem off and shooting every officer before they join the front line in melee.

Turn 1, SD isn't an issue, but when I just plink with the valkyries in the air till turn 3 (and with my wyvern doublefiring and rerolling all misses and rerolling all wounds till it gets whacked at range) until t he enemy screens are tore up, and THEN drop it all on him like a brick. Your air component is even better suited to this tactic than mine, you have more flyers and can chew more things up from above.
