Hello Dakka, with the LVO around the corner and the meta having had enough time to settle, I thought it was time to take another look at at faction performance. However I thought it would be fun to compare how people perceive faction balance to how the factions actually performed in tournaments. So while I work on combining data I scraped from BCP with the data from 40k stats, I created this survey to collect peoples thoughts on balance.

These are always a little more interesting with some personal info in them, so let me go over what inspired me to take this approach. I was at a tournament yesterday, and I brought my Necrons. I've been of the opinion that this edition has been really hard on necrons, and one of my opponents said necrons were a top 3 faction. I was flabbergasted, after a lack luster CA2019, and getting nothing since CA2018, I couldn't imagine necrons being that strong. Then I finished the tournament 2 and 1, with my two wins being in the mid thirties and having tabled my opponents (and my loss being against a well known ITC player). That got me thinking, could I be wrong, do the necrons advantages against marines make them a meta darling? So wile I work on checking my assumptions, I thought it would be fun to do the same for the community at large.

Just fyi, that style of ranked survey is very difficult to fill in from a mobile device. They don't differentiate well between "I want to scroll up or down" and "I want to drag-drop an item into a different spot in the ranking order" when the items are full screen width.

Internet opinions are ridiculously over-exaggerated. It's like making a statistical questionnaire with "rate from 1 to 10" and people only select 1, 5, and 10, and nothing else. For that reason, you hear things like "Necrons awful", even if Necrons are honestly just middling. Every faction can pull victories - I've even seen mono-Grey Knights win games at tournaments (before the newest Chapter Approved).

You mean before PA, b.c now with Marines+PA...idk if many armies can get top witht here are a few SM players there now.
