Hi.

My art teacher in highschool once chasted me for making a very dull grey. I was making it with white and black. Istead she said I should make grey using two opposet colours.

Que painting some dark eldar models. I used complementery colours on them. Cabalite green and the pink colour. When I was painting the ghost dogs I used a grey mixed by the green and pink. What was nice about that colour was that I could easaly 'tink' the grey green or pink by manipulating the colours. Also, it looked great with the green and pink of the army.

But I am planing on making some muted coloured ogres and I am looking for a nice grey colour. Do any of you have any experience mixing grey from GW's orange and blue? What oranges and blues combines nicely?

Wow I had no idea that would work! Very cool

Sorry I don't have any tips, except maybe using a small drop of a friend's paints to experiment

About 3 parts blue to 1 orange aparantly makes a grey. I think you'd need to add white or black to make it actually grey though. Seems like a lot more hassle than it's worth. Just add tones to your grey as you mix it.

In my experience, mixing blue and orange made brown.

You get shades from a murky purple to a browny grey. Like said, you'll need to add black and or white to make it more of an actual grey.

No I sucksesfully made grey by mixing Caledor Sky and Wild Rider red.

If you want to try doing this then be shure to always add the dark colour to the light colour, and not the other way around. (Othervice you will end up using up all your light colour, and mix to much paint.)

Wild Rider turns into a muddy brown, and then it gets grey. If you continue adding blue after that it will turn more blue.

You can essentually always make grey by the right mix of all 3 primary colours. Usually accomplished by working with two opposet colours (picture the regular colour sircle.)

Anyway, I was happy with the atemt of Wild Rider Red and Caledor Sky, it turned grey. But it was not an interesting grey colour for what I was looking for. Sugestions are welcome.

I generally prefer to go black and white for grey, and then add a touch of other colors if I want to tint it. Go-to is a little blue for a cold grey, and a little orange for a warm one.

Most of the reason for failure of mixing is due to multi-pigment colors being used as a base which will result in uncertain end color.
