Hello all I have been painting my GSC infantry using contrast paint. I was very happy with the results but have now started on the vehicles and im not so happy with the results. The contrast I am most interested in would be skeleton horde. Have people found success with contrast on tanks? Any tips? Or is there an equivalent "normal paint I can use?

Regards mark

Dont lett fluff get in the way of a good army list.

Allways up for a new game Hertfordshire UK

Yes, contrast on tanks works fine but you use it differently. In order to get a good finish you use the contrast like artist inks (not as in what we call inks but INK) through an air brush. Hand painting contrast on a vehicle generally won't work. I am certain there are edge cases and I've brushed smaller details with contrast on vehicles but........

Airbrush for large flat surfaces. It looks terrible if you try to use it like contrast paint on a figure. If you pool it it gets splotchy and awful.

I have used it on a razorback, but still had to layer the larger flat
panels, I used blood angels red and it covered the tank in minutes, then with a combination of evil sunz scarlet and AP dragon red I was able to layer the contrast

If you download the citadel paint app, you will most certainly find the colours that complement skeleton hoard.

A quick look at the death wing terminator shows

I looked at some people trying airbrushing Contrast paint when it first came out but the results were not quite what the paint was advertised as. Do you mean just run it through an airbrush for coverage of the base colour, or does it actually do the shading and highlighting part of it still too?

Contrast, in my experience, is really only good for organics and textures. I haven't been able to get it to look good on flat panels or power armor.

I really like the effect it has on my guardsmen squads pants/flesh though.

Contrast is more expensive than normal paint. Contrast is also a kind-of replacement for a selection of normal paints (base, wash and highlight).
So, all contrasts should have a Base paint equivalent.

As said, the paint app has both colour styles listed, and lists the paints needed for the same effect.

It's just like an ink. It applies a tint or tone to the model you then highlight and shade normally.. though... I've built up shade by going from a lighter contrast to a darker one. The color tones are strong in the Contrast paints so they work really well but they are NOT opaque. Just like artist Inks. I chose the contrast because I often had done pre-shading, etc in advance and that + contrast through an airbrush gives an instant result that just needs final clean up if you are going for "game ready".

But no, they work nothing like they do on a figure.
