So I've become aware this is a thing that exists.

https://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-267727-Specialty-Mirror-6-Ounce/dp/B00FMRXJW2/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=mirror+coat+spray&qid=1578429907&sr=8-4

And I wonder would it, or a similar product work on a mini? Might be kind of interesting.

My guess is its going to react similarly to the various chrome lacquer paints.

probably will require a gloss black undercoat.

I tried some metal spray paints on some scale models, and they didn't come out very smooth. That maybe been my cans though. Do a test first.

You will probably find that it needs a thick coat or goes on thick & therefore obscure all the fine details.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Here's the manufacturer's instructional video:

It calls for four to five thin coats and you paint it on the back side of the glass (like a traditional mirror the reflective coating is on the back of the glass).

If you use it on the outside of anything, it will probably come out like any other chrome paint - just really shiny silver. Obviously the key is the intended use on the backside of glass, just like a normal mirror.

They note in the video that the painted side "...remains dull...".

I've heard a lot of great things about Molotow Liquid Chrome if you're after a strong chome finish. Buy the marker refills and spray through an airbrush.

This method I have seen in person plus this guy did a video on it:
