What's the general opinion on using oversized bases on minis? Specifically, I'd like to use some Sector Mechanicus bases on a T'au Fire Warrior Kill Team I'm making. Fire Warriors come with 25mm bases, but the smallest Sector Mechanicus base is 32mm.
I'm assuming it's not tournament legal, but I don't plan on going to tournaments anyways. I'm more interested in knowing whether it's considered rude or improper by the community at large.

Since larger bases are not an advantage I would not have an issue with it . Note i would only go to a 32 mm base on Fire Warriors.. Oh and to keep most happy make the bases look really cool with the extra space

They have sector mechanicus on 25mm. Look at GW website-necromunda section.

Theoretically a larger base could be used for game advantage (i.e. a unit on 32mm bases can "screen" far better than a 25-28mm base), so it just depends on who you're playing with.

I play casually and use non-GW bases in non-GW sizes. As long as they're appropriate-ish for the models. So only you know what kind of environment you really game in.

Technically Necromunda bases are not Sector Mechanicus but Zone Mortalis bases. Sector Mechanicus bases were introduced when Shadow War: Armageddon was released and they come in 32mm, 40mm and 65mm.

That being said, the suggestion to check Necromunda bases remains valid. Necromunda (Zone Mortalis) bases are considerably higher quality casts than Sector Imperialis or Sector Mechanicus bases. I would use them for Kill Team. Necromunda bases are available in 25mm, 32mm and 40mm.
