Can you use High Magister (new TS stratagem from PA) to give Magnus Otherworldly Presence if he isn't your Warlord? That way he always has a 3++. I don't see why not, just checking as it seems *very* good and will probably need to be FAQd to prevent it...

There is no wording requiring Magnus or Ahriman to select their assigned trait they would get if they were the Warlord, no.

It needs a FAQ. It's obvious the Codex came out before the Magister stratagem in PA so we face this odd interaction.

RAW have at it but I can see clear RAI.

Interestingly enough, here's the wording of the space marine Hero of the Chapter stratagem:

[...]; it is regarded as your Warlord for the purposes of that Warlord Trait.

Even with that wording, if the TS one is the same, it would seem as though you would get locked into a weird Time Loop lol. Ok, so you gave it a trait of your choosing, but it counts as the warlord for the purpose of the trait, and the codex says the character is locked to a trait if it is the warlord... But it isn't the warlord.

I would avoid this until you see a FAQ unless you're playing with casual players because this is just asking for long attack/defend lawyering at an event unless your judge feels strongly one way or another about it already

Yeah as usual GW can't write their rules properly. It's ambigious and unclear as we are not given enough information to figure out what the correct answer is.

I think it's intended to give Ahriman and Magnus their designed trait (and the Magnus one sucks big time), but it would be interesting to give this a go RAW, it would help so much with Magnus T1 drama and at least give him something out of this book, not only right now he got nothing but he also got Team Rocket-ed out of his own planet by the GK, poor guy he never ever ever is allowed a win by GW

Doesn't the Space Marine trait work the same? AFAIK named characters for the supplements must pick their locked traits, too.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

Its irrelevant how any other trait works. It depends on whether magnus has a fixed warlord trait, or not. If not, you can pick any warlord trait for him with magister, which is the true name of the strat. The strat high magister does something different.

I'm fairly sure that "determine a warlord trait" means picking the fixed one for special characters.

Ok, so magister says you can pick a character and determine a warlord trait for it, and the character counts as your warlord for the purposes of this warlord trait. The warlord trait for magnus is predetermined, so you can only use that one.

Also agree, this is pretty clear cut.
