Heya all, new to 8th edition and trying to wrap my head around how some of the points costs work.

Looking at Imperial Armour 8 - Xenos, and the points costs for some of the ork vehicles, I'm confused by two things.

It says, "Points Per Model - Does not Include Weapons or Wargear", and for example a Kill Tank is 215 points. In its profile, that model is "equipped with a Bursta Kannon and a twin Big Shoota" - do I need to add these to its base 215 points cost, or are they part of that cost? It says does not include weapons etc, but its also odd to not make the points refer to the default loadout. If it has the special rule "Grot Riggers", do I need to then add the Grot Riggers vehicle wargear cost to its 215 points? Do I need to go through each vehicle I take, look at its rules, and then see which rules are actually wargear disguised as rules and add them?

Secondly, when I put the kill tank into Battlescribe, it comes out at 424 points. Its listing the guns and mandatory equipment/special rules/whatever is going on there that have a total cost of 59 points, but 215 plus 59 is definitely not 424. I'm not sure where this new points cost is coming from or how to find it?

Would massively appreciate any assistance on figuring this out!

You need to add them to the base cost. The reason is because you only pay for the wargear you end up with, If you replace wargear, you don't pay for the wargear that got replaced. Also There is no Imperial Armour 8 in 8th edition, it's Imperial Amour - Index: Xenos. You might be looking at the wrong book. Also factor in there have been three rounds of points errata since the book was released, the book is most likely out of date, you need to buy Chapter Approved 2019 for the latest points costs. Yes, you have to pay for points updates.

As for the special rules, unless the special rule is explicitly the name of a peice of wargear (thank you Eldar for that nonsense), you don't pay for the special rules a model has. If there isn't any option for the Kill Tank to take wargear called "Grot Riggers", it's always active and absorbed into the base cost. But yes, because GW are clearly the best rules writers around, you need to go through each vehicle you take, look at its rules, and then see which rules are actually wargear disguised as rules and add them.

Just to confirm - you're looking at the current Imperial Armour – Index: Xenos book rather than the old 'Raid on Kastorel-Novem' book, right?

Yeah the book i called "Imperial Armour Index: Xenos". I just saw 8 with it at some point and seem to recall drawing from IA8 a lot in 6th so my Orks had actually playable stuff.

Seems like battlescribe has used the Chapter Approved price tag of 365 and added the grot riggers etc to the cost.

Gigantuan facepalm at needing to cross reference special abilities as equipment, good god.

At least battlescribe automates it. I think I'll just use that and whatever the hell it thinks the cost and rules are is what I'll go with. Yikes

The kill tank by default comes with a burst kannon and a twin big shoota as well as grot riggers and a reinforced ram. The data sheet doesn't make it at all clear but the points costs at the back show that the latter two are not inherent abilities but (compulsory) wargear items that must be paid for separately.

Looking at page 54 of the Munitorum Field Manual that came with CA2019, the points costs for the kill tank and the four items mentioned above do indeed add up to 424 points.

8930 points 6800 points 75 points 600 points
2810 points 5740 points 2650 points 3275 points
55 points 640 points 1840 points 435 points
2990 points 700 points 2235 points 1935 points
3460 points 1595 points 2480 points 2895 points
