Hey all, for range based modifiers like alpha legion or ravenguard is the determination based on the position of the shooting unit or each model?

For instance, if you have 2 intercessors within 12" of an alpha legion possessed unit and 5 more are 12.1+", do they all shoot at normal BS or do they 5 shoot at -1?

It's for each model.

Range and Line of Sight are on a per-model basis, but are done so for the whole unit only once before all models make their attacks, which means the shots are "locked in" before any shots are made. The opponent can't remove casualties to prevent the rest of the unit firing, nor will the rest of the unit find itself suffering modifiers when they didn't before, because this is all determined during the targeting steps.

it will depend on what the specific rule says, there is no global rule for this. If the rule states it works against models outside of X" than its on a model basis, if however the rule talks about units its on unit basis
