Hi there, dakka doods,

I have smeared swords with the GW wash ... something crimsone, Red.

In order to bring some 'highlight' to it, to the edges, can I mix the wash with a layer or base to lighten up things to bring the edges to gradual shades from (red) color to white?

Or does the wash not ... mix? I'm ignorant on ... wash to (acrylic) layer stuff.

Thanks for the responses.

you dont need to mix the wash colour with your base. just use your base layer over the top to re lighten, then highlight up from that using your lighter tones. You want contrast on your highlights so there needs to be a significant difference in your tones, which you won't acheive by mixing the dark ink into your base layer. Just apply your base over the wash in thin layers, with your strokes starting at the dark portion and finishing at the light. Once you've brightened the layer, then start adding your highlight tones.
